Crunching the (metric) flowhood numbers
    #14047228 - 03/01/11 07:24 AM (12 years, 10 months ago)

OK, so I'm trying to figure out what I need, but most of the discussion around here is based on Imperial units etc.

Using this as a base:
http://www.fungifun.org/English/Flowhood#match

  • It's suggested that I want an air speed of approx. 0.5 m/s (a.k.a. 100 linear feet/min)

  • The 609mm x 609mm x 150mm (a.k.a. 24" x 24" x 6") H14 filter that I'm looking at is rated for 0.24m3/s @ 250 Pa (a.k.a. 1" static pressure)

Go given that the filter is 0.37m2, my calculations seem to be telling me:

0.24 m3/s  /  0.37m2  =  0.65m/s

(I'm hoping that division is appropriate here, in order to get the correct units in the result)

So assuming I get the appropriate blower pressure going (something less than 250 Pa I guess), that filter should be suitable for a laminar flow, yes?

I agree that your math is correct.  The numbers they give there seem to be at about 508CFM.  To hit the target of .5m/s, it seems that you'd need to go to about 400CFM.

Don't accept this as fact, I'm a novice at flowhoods myself but the numbers seem to be correct....
