hey guys
this is my *buddy's first attempt at this. He didn't even get a proper print, he just scrounged up the sediment from his buddy's bag, anyway he left the three jars for about 2 and a half weeks and there was no sign of anything. he got a little frustrated with this so he loosened the lids on all the jars - an even opened 1 of the jars to see what was goin on (i know). Anyway, after this, he started to see rapid growth and there's definately some mycelium growing, but he fears other stuff might be growin too. You guys are the experts, i'd really appreciate it if i could get some replies to whether or not it's contaminated or not.
heres the link to the pic [image]http://www.geocities.com/mthurston69/picpage.html[/image]
*note*--> you may have to copy/paste the pic in word and make it bigger to get the best image
another thing - if this is a contimant, then can i still try to grow some shrooms only for spore print purposes or will the spores be contaminated as well?
thanks a bunch

That was made using the PF-TEK right? In my opinion, that doesn't look good at all. The cotton like stuff and the the green spots are probly contaminants. You have more than only mycellium in here and when this happens to me, I dump the cake in my garden... I wouldn't mess with that!

Invest a little more time and efforts next time you try to grow shrooms. The sterilization phase is far the most important phase so use the proper material and innoculation techniques... Otherwise, it's truly a waste of time.

Thanks for the reply, i just thought i'd throw in that my buddy used whole grain wild rice and vermiculate.
When the jars are in the colonizing stage, should I leave the lids as tight as possible, or should air be getting exchanged?
Yes, i read somewhere that sterilization was over-rated, so I figured if it works cool, if it doesn't i'll try harder next time. I also heard that once the mycellium gets colonized enough, it can hold it's own against contaminations and it can destroy them is this true or not?
well thanks again

Not good at all, i'd toss it, it doesn't worth the trouble.
