Questions

Hi guys I have a few questions: My first attempt at growing didnt go to well (BRF Tek) I plan on using grain now
1) Is Hard Wheat Kernels the same thing as rye grain?
http://www.bulkbarn.ca/en-ca/products.html?product=3271&search=Wheat+
2)I have a pressure cooker. But how do I know if it's on 15 psi/10 psi etc?
3) How would I know if my pressure cooker would even get to 15 psi?
4) If I'm not able to get 15 psi would i be able to use 10 psi and pressure cook the grain/wbs for longer?
5)I would like to use this tek http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/6817701/page/1 instead of having jar tops such as the one used in that tek would i be able to drill holes/use tyvek/and medical tape and still get the same result?
5b)After following grain lc tek would I have to wait a couple of weeks for the mycelium to grow and then i could aspirate or would i be able to aspirate right after?
6)I purchased a syringe from a vendor (Ralphs) would I be able to use 2cc's and save the rest for later?
7)What exactly is FAE? does it mean gas exchange?

FAE is fresh air exchange, which is for fruiting, not colonization
Yes you can use 2cc and save the rest for later....clean the needle with alcohol and then place the cap back on....Store at room temp if you will use it again soon

If your PC is one with a weight on it then the PSI is whatever the weight says on it.

Pcing you always put it on medium high heat and then lower it when it starts spitting steam as far as I know an all PCs. The PSI depends on a setting on your PCer or the size weight that is on the steam outlet, raising the temp would only burn what you are cooking, ruin your PCer, or burn you and blow up your PCer.

look on the PC and give a name and model number and we can look it up for you real quick and tell ya what PSI it runs at, if it doesn't have a rocker..

I could have sworn you said you had an electric PC, I have never owned a stove PC so Im not familiar with them. Read the instruction manual of your PC....If you don't have it it is probably online somewhere. Then use the search and type in how to use a PC or something like that...

even using a stove with PC i crank the heat all the way to high, but i leave the rocker off until it starts to steam, then place on and once pressure starts building up i cut the heat back to medium..

But still look up your manual, that will just tell you the basics of what the rocker should do.

Yes put the rocker on. I fill water about 4-5 inches up on the jars. I find that it builds pressure faster with a little more water in the cooker.

Jars need to be out of the water. Steam is hotter than the water boiling and you need to achieve these high temps to sterilize grains.

Generally people put like 1-2 inches of water in. Assuming you have holes in the disc you can cover them with micropore tape or tyvek and obviously make sure you put some aluminum foil on before you PC so water drops can't saturate the tape or tyvek....Using both might restrict Gas Exchange during colonization. I highly suggest a PC test run before loading the jars up...It will waste a couple more hours but you need to get the cooker use down so you don't mess it up and waste grain and your time....A test run is just to make sure you can run it for 90 minutes without boiling the water dry. When you load the jars add cold water to the cooker. You want the jars to heat up with the water. Start the timer after you achieve 15PSI. Afterwards let jars cool in the pressure cooker somewhat before taking out. Never manually release pressure.
