BRF/Substrate question

Hey guys. i've just got a quick question here, may sound a bit noob-ish but I just want to clear it up!
i've just started getting into cultivation, and have been watching Roadkill's Tek. I started to gather ingredients and what not today. went to the supermarket and picked up some rice flour. I noticed on the pack the ingredients to it said 'white rice' rather than brown. So my question is, does it matter that much if it's white rather than brown rice flour?
i've also noticed in the Tek that he seems to be using white rice flour.
Thanks in advance guys,
peace.

try and get some whole brown rice, and a cheap coffee grinder. make your own BRF.
and that is BRF that was used in the video you saw by rr.
i dont know about using white rice, but i would assume if it does work, the nutrition available to grow mushrooms will be considerably lower.

No, he uses brown rice flour but any rice flour (amd almost any flour) will do the job. Consider buying organic rice flour though. Good luck

As I said many times, "BRF is best for cakes" is outdated info. Look here.

Hey there,
So which tek are you referring to? The Hpoo tek? Cuz if it is, Roadkill actually says he uses BRF- brown rice flour.
Here is a useful thread:
http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/10238996#10238996
If you use the search function it can be super useful for answering most questions.
Remember, when you are starting, whatever question you may have, it usually has been asked many times before by people in your same position, so it wont be that hard to find a quick answer.
I just typed in "white rice flour"

BRF has more nutes than white rice flour but allot of different things will work. The reason it calls for BRF is because of the extra nutrients that the myc likes to eat. You could always just get some dry brown rice and beat the heck out of it with the bottom of a coffee cup or a meat mallet until it is as fine as you can get it if you can't find BRF.

None of the supermarkets I checked carried it.....Health food stores most likely will.

When you do find some check the sodium content cause it could mess with your grow if it has too much or any added. Salt is no good for myc...

I use organic brown rice flour, millet flour, rye flour, and spelt flour, all with very similar results....Any whole food store or nature's market type of place carries these products.(as well as organic rye berries and several other useful things) If you are in the states and near a publix, even they have brf in their organic section. So do some walmart neighborhood markets. You can also order it in quantity online. When i was noobish i tried making my own flour, but it was way more of a pain in the ass than it was worth the time. I would stick to organic only, so as to not only avoid impurities, but to avoid any fungicides non organics may have came in contact with.

i ended up finding the BRF in the healthfood section at Woolworths (aussie version of walmart) in the organic section. Made sure it was low in sodium and was an organic brand, it should do the trick
