Dry spores?
    #1404216 - 03/23/03 05:49 PM (20 years, 10 months ago)

Afoaf is growing GT and pes Amazonian from spore prints ordered through sporeworks. He made several syringes and inoculated a doesen jars. 14 days later there is still no sign of colonization. Is it possible that the spores were in the water in the syringe for too short of a time, and didn't get the chance to germinate in the aquious solution? Is it unusual to see no signs of growth two weeks after inoculation?
The substrate is BRF, vermiculte and water in 1:2:1 parts. I know the substrate is good because my friend has some other strain growing in other jars. But none of the Sporeworks Spores have germinated at all yet. I know there is enough spores in the solution because he used a square inch of card for each 10cc syringe. The jars are in a box with a fishtank heater in a jar full of water. The temp is 82. Please let me know if you've had a similar problem or how I should solve this. Should he just wait it out see if they germinate, or should he make another syringe and let it sit a bit before he uses it? Thanks in advance.

How long did you wait before innoculating after making syringes? You should wait 24 hours, but even so they should eventually germinate. Since you're using BRF I assume you have a dry layer of perlite/vermiculite, did you get the needle below this layer while innoculating? Everything else sounds fine, for optimal temp get closer to 86
