Could that mean that pessimism throughout life leads to a positive outlook on the death bed ?

A doctor told me a year or two ago that I might have a cancer and wanted to do a biopsy and all sorts of shit. I told him no way and I was ready to go if it was my time. (He threatened to call the authorities claiming I was suicidal) Needless to say he's not my doc now. Anyway I'm going to have to be ready if it is cancer but I plan to make full use of any pain meds I need. I'm just not going to end up in the hands of the medical profession.

Wow, what a douche. I wonder how many doctors would do that to their patients...

Actually what I found out is they can and do and you can be taken into protective custody. Don't trust them. I never will again.

What? really? Yeesh..
The only cancer doc I've ever talked to was presenting to our state legislature about assisted suicide. He was definitely in favor of it. I really empathized with the dude, his anxiety was through the roof when he was talking to me.

Mundane life has it's positives and negatives. Why try to deny them? That seems to be the focus of daily affirmations. I won't say they're completely useless, but perhaps only as a means to get in touch (create awareness) of what is/has been already arising.
I played around with affirmations, and it was useful getting to the bottom of the content, trying to grok direction and purpose. But they only work well in the moment when it's already true. There are days when affirmations ain't gonna fly. Trying to force myself to say some positive bull shit really just pisses me off.
And once you can connect with the states of mind you're trying to invoke with words, there's no need for words really, and in fact they seem insufficient.
Prayer is similar. I would guess most who don't pray view prayer as a futile attempt to invoke the sympathy of a God who doesn't exist. But prayer is a means of self communication, just as thoughts are. The difference is that more of the brain is involved, using the vocal cords and ears, as well as whatever parts of the logical mind dictate what is important enough to be spoken aloud. But when prayer is used, positivity isn't necessary, only some form of sincerity directed towards trying to sort out the thoughts and grok the current situation.

I've found affirmations to be effective but mostly those I create myself and create new each day.
