just found these two articles right next to one another on CNN.com
Men convicted of hate crime sentenced to 9 years in prison
Two white guys beat a Mexican to death for being "an immigrant in their neighborhood".. Both acquitted of murder charges and convicted of simple assault, getting 9 years.
Three police officers were charged with trying to cover up the incident. Although acquitted, one of the officers was found guilty of filing false police reports and another was convicted of lying to the FBI.
compare with:
Man who threatened 'South Park' creators gets 25 years in prison
This 21 year old converted Muslim was angry about writers of South Park depicting Mohammed, so he posted their addresses online and encouraged readers to "pay them a visit."
Stemming from this, he was charged and pled guilty to threatening, encouraging others to threaten, and "providing material support to terrorists." 25 years in the clink
--
Does anyone see a problem with this? Granted, the justice system hasn't always been the most consistent in sentencing, but this reeks of overt racism and prejudice.
Seriously, what is more reprehensible? Personally, I'd much rather have someone post my address on the internet and have nothing become of it than to be beaten to death for my skin color.

Obvious issue is obvious.
Lots of people pretend like this is a non-extant phenomenon in America but I'm half black and I can tell you right now half of the reason I never got involved with hard drugs is because lots of the white kids I went to school with would have easily gotten probation or at worst 1-6 months for possession while I can guarantee you I would have gone to jail for years if I were caught with the same quantities of drugs that they (oftentimes) were.
Life isn't fair m8. Adjust and behave accordingly while keeping off your knees.

He didn't get 25 years just for that. He trained overseas as a terrorist.

eh.
i think on the whole he kind of deserves it.
he should have known that his people like doing dumb shit like committing suicide and mass murder for the glory of something that doesnt exist. and then he should have made the mental connection of, "hey, muslims do dumb shit all the time. so if i threaten to do some myself, i might just get thrown in jail and called a terrorist; and thats a federal crime."
the guys who killed the mexican should have gotten more time though.
