Hehe You're right about that.
To be honest, this isn't what I really wanted to do, but I just got so tired of having no money and working at a shitty job. I want to move out and be able to support myself and live my own life, so I had to make a decision to do something.
The only school close enough for me to work and travel to at the same time was this tech school. So I looked at their majors and just chose one that I thought would at least be somewhat interesting and make some decent money.
What did you major in? Do you regret it?

i went to a tech school for autos... the skills learned are invaluable for everyday life, but turning a hobby into a career was one of my biggest mistakes in life.
regret it everyday and i dont even wrench on cars for a living anymore.

It really sucks that in this society we can't do what we truly enjoy as a career
What do you do now? Have you considered going back to school for something else?

Actually, yes I have. I caught it about halfway through on TV one night. That was a weird ass movie.
I like David Duchovny best as Mulder.
And Brad Pitt the best in any Ocean's movies

welding is good pay. i have a buddy who went to a welding school and its not uncommon for him to get jobs every once in a while where he gets paid BANK. he had a job in another state and because it was out of state he got paid $60+ an hour.
im not exactly sure how it works though. he must be part of a welding union or something, because once he finishes one job that job is over and then he gets another one doing something else. theres no down time between jobs though. so it isnt like hes unemployed for periods of time.

My boyfriend recently got laid off from a power plant. They have a bunch of welders there, and he would come home talking about all these different types of welds. Fucking tig welds, mig welds, rig welds, too many damn rhyming welds!

I went to a barber the other day and get a trim. It took about 15 minutes and he charged me $17. He runs the place and there were people waiting. So before overhead, that's $68/hour. I think I'm in the wrong business.

That sounds kind of like what I was referring to at the power plant. They have outages all the time and host several different contracting companies at each plant site, who then bring in welders for outages. Then they lay them off after the outage is over and they can travel around to other power plants or wherever else they're needed.
