QFT. Animals are animals. If its a food source, then I see nothing wrong with that.

animals arnt just animals, they are living beings experiencing the amazing phenomenon of life, with some degree of consciousness and feel like we do, except they don't have as complex of a language as we do to express it, we humans are indeed superior but I would hope we arnt that barbaric when we literally have 1000's of alternative food sources that are just as good, theres no reason for this

I wouldn't mind this half as much if the methods were quick or painless

And Japanese people suck in general

Fun fact: Iruka is japanese for dolhpin, and niku is meat, so dolphin meat= irukaniku

The more you know

If they have nutritional value  of any sort, that is grounds for humans (animals' superiors as you say) killing and eating them.  The only reason people are outraged is because of the "shocking" video of the dolphins flapping around while they bleed from a throat wound and oxygen deprivation.  The same could be argued for cows, yet I bet you are not a vegetarian.

I really do wonder sometimes how much this community has its head up its ass in regards to the "sanctity of life."  The whole superiority complex that trippers have regarding being "enlightened" human beings makes we want to puke in my soup.  We live in a world full of shitty things and it's been like that for millions of years.  Signing a petition stating your hatred for an event captured on film is ridiculous, especially something as normal as fishing from the world's oceans.

Instead of expressing outrage and anger and manifesting those emotions into signing an online petition, why don't you go do something active and stop the shit at its source?

Don't pick and choose what to crusade for.  Everything or nothing.

To me it doesnt really matter what animal it is, we are omnivores by natures design. Obviously part of our race has found a fondness for dolphin meat. As long as they are not oging exinct and its not ultra overly cruel I fail to see a problem.

Those dolphins looked like they were being slaughtered in a pretty typical slaughterhouse method, even if it is painful for the dolphins.

everyone has their right to an opinion...
1. it would hardly take any more effort to kill these animals in a more humane way
2. I am a vegetarian and have been for a year and a half, I know how bad the slaughtering of animals in the us is, really. I just found dolphins to be particularly disturbing because of their intelligence and grace
3. I am doing the ultimate act of activism when it comes to animal rights and the environment, I am studying environmental sciences and marine biology and plan on making a career out of increasing awareness and preservation of animals and the environment
way to judge a book by its cover man

I apologize for bringing into question your vegetarianism.

I can only hope that you really do affect the world in a positive way, whether now or in the future.

Since I'm not a vegetarian I should explain my view. I feel like I gotta draw the line some place and since dolphins are some of the most intelligent creatures on the planet (at least as far as science can determine) I think they should be left alone. Plus, many ecologists say that dolphin and whale hunting is highly detrimental to the ecosystem. Sure, one can argue that salmon and tuna hunting is also harmful but I don't think as much so (at least not yet). Once again you have to draw the line some place. People will always eat the flesh of animals but as intelligent beings we have to try and keep the ecosystem somewhat balanced.

When someone says they see all animals as the same, it's hard for me to understand that perspective. Do you value the life of a mosquito as much as that of an elephant? I think that an animal's level of consciousness, though it can't be measured in any scientific way, should be a consideration when determining the morality of killing it. Is there no difference between that clam that had to die for your soup compared to that cow that met its demise for you hamburger? Morality is a grey area and that's why it's hard for me to understand how some people see it as so black and white.

particularly disturbing for their intelligence and grace? so a smart animal getting slaughtered is worst than a dumb animal getting slaughtered?

sorry to bump this thread, I know it's 4 years old. but found it and wanted to give my say.

it is pretty gruesome how they kill these animals, and all these ocean animals for some reason are always in danger of becoming extinct. japan is stupid, they are morons, especially with this type of bullshit. hence the reason whale wars is so popular.

BUT, ask yourself this. aside from the fact that it's pointless to cut open an animal to bleed to death in a way where it takes longer for them to die from dehydration than it does from bleeding(which is hard to believe from the video), what is the difference between these animals dying and cows and pigs? I mean I've watched it and trust me that video looks pretty fucked up.

but how can you be for one thing, then go out and eat a hamburger? just fucking weird, and yeah that video made me want to kill myself, seriously. damn crazy.
