This Link should help you with Identification, L. Williamsii would probably be your best bet as it's self fertile & more commonly has a higher alkloid content, although this can vary greatly depending on the buttons age, genetics & how it has been cared for.
Grafting would be your best bet if you want to grow buttons fast. Alkloid content is lower in grafted buttons, but will increase with age.

Most seed companies are discrete and don't label your package with the name of your product. To my knowledge, Lophophora Williamsii and all of it's variants are the only illegal specimens. Fricii, Diffusa, Texana and all others not in the Williamsii strain set I believe to be legal. Diffusa contains mescaline, but in far lower quantities than Williamsii.

thats what i was thinking (not labeling what type of seed) MOD EDIT: NO asking for sources please. Refer to our forum rules to understand why. Thanks!

Pretty sure the entirety of Lophophora is illegal. Could be wrong though. At any rate, seeds will probably come labeled, or at least with L. fricii/whatever/etc. (this is just good practice anyway), but 99.999999999% of all suspicious mailmen wouldn't have a goddam clue what they were looking at if they saw some seeds anyway.
Hell, 99.999% of botanists probably wouldn't have a goddam clue if you just showed them some seeds.

if you want mesc, go for williamsii.
diffusa grow quick, as can frici. koehresii can but often dont get as large. williasmii grow just as fast, but tend to stick to one stem for longer than fricii/diffusa so people seem to think they grow slower...but its not usually the case.
if mesc is your goal, go williamsii. if looks is your goal, get em all.
they all have alkaloids, but williamsii has more mesc. others dont have much and have other alk's which are gonna make you more sick. Anything that begins with Lophophora williamsii and follows with whatever fancy crap after is going to be ok.
