these guys are fucking nuts, bat shit insane! how do they think of this stuff? Anyone watch "through the wormhole" with Morgan Freeman? Or the Unverse on the history channel?
how to mere mortals learn so much about black holes and our universe,
in an episode i was just watching, there is a man who live sin hawii surfs all day but has a phd in physics. He has recently developed a theory that might LINK ALL 4 OF THE UNIVERSAL FORCES. (gravity, electromagnatism, strong and weak forces), in no way could i ever possibly explain the mathematics behind it, but this guy is fucking nuts.
ima try and find a video
i reccomend watching the whole thing but if you want something short just watch from 10:00-15:00
here the second part continuting the awesomeness

read about garret lisi.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antony_Garrett_Lisi
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/An_Exceptionally_Simple_Theory_of_Everything
dude just went around hawaii and colorado and shit for years surfing and skiing and working on his "unified theory of everything". it has been getting more and more attention from popular physics lately
edit: LOL i am an idiot, thats what I get for posting without reading the thread. you were talking about him already

I remember seeing that guy talking about his theory of everything on some show i was watching, good stuff.
Reminds me of the Holographic Universe/paradigm. http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/2964561#2964561
I think that needs it's own thread though.

like wtf?? if the holographic paradigm view of the universe is correct, how does it tie in with the universal forces and hard physics?
ahhh man... mind fucking blown.

I want to understand this stuff, but it took me like a year to understand "What the Bleep Do We Know" and apparently that's like Cliff's Notes 'n shit. I think I might get the holographic paradigm, but then when I think about it too long, it all melts together into nonsense. I feel so small when I try to understand it all...

dude thing is man, according to classic mechanics quantum physics is retarded, according to quantum physics classic mechanics is retarded.
Its just, we dont really understand half of what we pretend to know because the real world is.. really unimaginable. Where measurements are created by an observer, Where actions can defy time.
It just, its a mindfuck of it all to try and even understand shit.
Its like trying to pretend you know what the color blue looks like when youve been blind all your life.

i dont understand the neuroscientist's explanation of the magnet? where would the magnetic force come from if someone is in a church? if not what force is it?

I'm studying neuroscience but physics is a very tempting field to study in. Last semester I had a theoretical physicist who was a true virtuoso instructor, his class was fun as hell and I got an A learning some truly crazy shit about how the universe works as well as answering a lot of questions I'd had about lasers, the speed of light, magnets, electricity, weight, quantum theory, etc.
It was the biggest temptation away from neuroscience I've experienced so far.

but did you watch the first video? that guy lisi had possibly developed a mathematical theorum tying the two together,
i have no fucking idea how the holigram paradigm ties in to it though

doesnt that formation of circles going around eachother look fucking beyond describle? like wtf it looks so fucking perfect, so fucking amazing... and if the model is correct then it will have found the particles giving mass and other ones that we have not discovered or thoerized yet
soo crazy how mathematics can predict things like planets, black holes and subatomic particles before we see or detect them

I'm considering going back to school to pursue a Phd in physics, it's so damn interesting. I recently graduated in civil engineering but the field is boring as shit, no creative thought at all. I tried to read Lisi's paper on his theory and it's pretty clear I'm severely lacking in the mathematical verbiage to understand what the fuck he's talking about, it's some intense stuff.
-------------------- Did he dream about dragons? Did he dream about deer? Did he whisper he names of friends who were near? What songs did they play, and how far away? Why did he whisper, why did she scream? What does the sound of a screen door mean? Who talks on the hill? Who goes to the cellar, can you feel the chill? Where does the river, when will the wind? How far are the mountains? Where do they end? Why would the church? Did the service begin? Tell me who died, and tell me who cried. Help me hide in the skin of a deer, my zippered-up bag in the mouth of a stag so swiftly I go through rows of does, it flows, it flows, it flows, it flows all over the hill where the green grass grows.

I am working on my PhD right now. I'll be done in about a year. I study the physics of fluids, spend all day solving partial differential equations and I love it. On the weekends I like to do shrooms and snowboard. If you ask me, the past 13 years of school have been worth it. Cool videos.
