No actually thanks for pointing it out: its what ive ben using as a substitute for tyvek/SFD. they are like cotton ball material only shaped in roung disks, i think there for acne control, or like small prep pads

Well in my case. i just use the disks as if they were synthetic filter disks. for instance on my mono i drilled 5 holes (pretty close together) then put the disk over the holes and tape them down really good.
For my jars: i drill 1/4" hole in the middle of the lid, and 4 more hole towards the outside of the lid for innoc points. (then i usually cut the rounded cotton disks into a rectangle) so that when i tape it over the 1/4" hole, the access tape also covers my inoculation holes.
after PC the tape sticks into the 4 innoc holes a little making them visible. that way there all sealed up until im ready for inoculation
I find that black electrical tape works great for me, even when pressure cooking.
ALSO: i would call it "rounded cotton disks/pads. not "rounded cotton tips"

ok. good to hear.
well i have a confession: I used a knife cleaned with alchohol to cut a little square into the sub to check and see if everything looked/smelled good. "i know this is a NO NO" did i screw up? i was clean about the whole thing, it should be alright shouldent it?
Also: should i add more straw and less coir and worm castings NEXT time to fix the "wetness" problem. I though it was at feild capacity but i guess it was a little on the wet side

you can add whatever ratio's you want, you just have to figure out what works for you, to get the right moisture content..
its going to be different for each person
also you should be ok with cutting out a section, but i wouldn't make a habbit of doing that..

well the tub is looking better, Still a bit wet though.
Question: can/should i use a paper towel to wipe the condensation off the inside of the tub? also the myc seems to be very wet still, its forming small pools actually. should i try to soak that up too?? or is a paper towel touching the myc and sub too risky?
thanks Nam

you can use a paper towel to soak up pool's that are forming...as far s wiping the condensation off the walls, that'd be pointless...

sweet. i just figured that is i soak up the pools, and wipe the condensation that is would help dry her up a bit. im sure more condensation would form (which isn't bad, means its humid rite?).
thanks 4 the advice

Okay so i was tending to the mono when i saw something that slightly concerns me. First let me start off by saying that i made the^ incision to check moisture/well-being. i checked on it today and it looks alot more colonized but where i made the incision you can see where i pulled a bit up (notice in the pics the darker Myc around the part i messed with.

Is this just making the Myc darker because i pulled a bit of sub to the to while checking it. why is it darker, not a contam is it?
there's worm castings+coir in the mix, is this just the worm castings making the myc a lil dar ker where i messed with it, i dont smell any noticeable contams.

im not sure, im pretty new.
but next time i wouldnt cut into it, if its going o mess up and get contaminated its going to happen regardless of you checking the inside of the mycelium now that you cut into it that is just another factor that caused it to get contamed and you cant narrow it down to the environment or anything.

Yea i know cutting is a no no. i am framiliar with the contams in my area. weve been battleing a long time lmoa. this however dosent look like any conatm i have seen. unless its cobweb but i dont think so, its too thick too be that.
