Indica vs. Sativa Clear this up for me?

A friend of mine goes to this giant medieval reenactment every year and always brings back so me LSD or bud. This past August she brought back some bud she bought, said it was from Mississippi or Tennessee or something. She said it is different than the kind we get here. It didn't smell like the weed I know and love. Or taste like it either. It was almost fruity, or something. It was so long ago. Definitely not that dank taste. I was wondering if that is because I get one kind of weed here in PA, one kind might grow more commonly here, and its the other kind that grows there?
Anyone know? It was good bud, relatively same high, a little harsh but nothing I'm not used to. I buy for bulk, not quality so much. I just like to smoke, don't bother with figuring out the strain or anything. If it will get me high I'll smoke it.

yeah, not very clear. Indica and Sativa are way to broad to be the difference. One Indica from another can be just as different as an Indica to a Sativa imo.

Sativa = tall, lanky plants with sparse buds that provide the user with an uplifting, more 'psychedelic', often hyper/buzzy high Indica = shorter, fatter plants that provide a more stoney, lazy, body-load high.
There are no sativa-only strains anymore, only sativa-dominant strains (aside from extremely rare cases, and presumably in medical grows) This is mostly because indica gives a way higher yield so nobody wants to waste their time/effort/legality growing shit that costs too much and doesn't give enough product.
There are, of course, indica-only strains.
Whichever you prefer is up to personal preference, but what you're used to is most likely indica dominant mersh (commercial/common weed)
Plenty of strains are grown with specific intentions, such as a fruity taste or bright color. The reason your weed smelled and tasted fruity was probably because it was a strain with some fruity name and was grown for that purpose. If it was very bright green and it didn't "rock" you it was probably sativa dominant.
The reason it was harsh probably had to do with curing or fertilizer or any number of improperly employed techniques.

Do you know if the state you live in, like climate and junk, effects which strains of pot are more commonly grown in? Cause it seems from no matter who I get it from there is rarely crazy awesome pot. It always smells the same and looks the same. Occasionally I'll get some really good shit, only once nasty ass brown shit

Like I said, you're buying commercial weed. Mersh generally refers to mids, but given the scope of modern cannabis it covers a wide range of what people think of as 'dank'. Commercial, generic dank weed is possible now given widespread knowledge of techniques and products geared toward indoor growing. This still leaves a canyon sized difference between your average high quality $35-50 an 8th shit and a strain like Sour Diesel, or Lemon Kush. Differences like growing techniques, use of pesticides, improper feeding curing drying trimming etcetcetcetcetc
That said, nearly all recreational drugs are available in any quality desired in all states. It depends exclusively on who you know.

I don't know about that
I think sativas are usually more fruity
Indicas are more diesel, gasoline, pungent smells

Indica=stoned,lazy,headbuzzed. Sativa=high,positive ideas,energy,laughing.
The flowering time of an sativa is around 12 tot 16 weeks and plants like 3 to 4 meters high.
The flowering of an indica takes around 8 tot 10 weeks, and plants are smaller like 1 to 1.6 meter.
There are not many pure indicas or sativas, like ''Santa maria''is 75% sativa and 25% indica. They crossed this with indica because the indica makes th flowering time lesser, now this 75% sativa and 25% indica flowering in 9 weeks.
The same with''amnesia''(even if the real original amnesia is very rare this days)have the same thing. they crossed it with the indica for the shorter flowering time.
Me,i prefer an crossed sativa 75% with 25% indica, this gives the high of the sativa a little cooling so that i'm not''speedy''high, but also not stoned .It gives me an controlable high.(like amnesia and santa maria or PP )
Growing sativa sorts take longer and you need an higher room since they grow around 3 to 4 meter, also in holland outdoors its impossible to grow an pure sativa sort since the 14 to 16 weeks flowering time.
Thats also why you pay 10 to 14 euro for 1 gram of pure sativa and an short flowering and small indica around 7 euro per gram. Indicas grow way more easier.
Also the reduralis crossed sorts like lowrider,ak47 etc flowering automatic. When you seed it to the ground it takes 9 weeks for the harvest. On that way if you begin begin may you can do 2 or even 3 harvests in the outdoor period in holland.

yup, but to answer your question about what weed is growing where... all kinds of weed are grown all over the place. the reason you probably get similar bud is because you don't venture that far out of your town/group of people to find the weed...so they could likely be getting it from the same person.
If you want different weed you gotta buy from different dealers... Most grows take place indoors, so the grower can basically grow whatever strain they want... Although, in the North West we have some super chronic weed all the time so I never have to deal with schwag. Probably due to the pretty lax laws regarding weed around here

Yeah, I only have the same 3 or 4 dealers. The give me good weed, so I don't bother too much with lookin for other shit. I sometimes get headies or hydro but it still tastes and smells the same, just better weed.

I've not enjoyed getting stoned in years, and after reading into the differences in strains lately, I am beginning to think that I have been getting hammered with strong Indica buds. Generally when I smoke (the once in a great while that I do), the only thing I can do, is stare at a wall and think until I come down. I don't want to talk to someone, would have absolutely no chance of following a conversation, and actually feel paranoid.
However long ago, I got a sack once that when I smoked it, it was like a refreshing high. I would smoke it in the mornings to replace coffee, and it just made me energetic and full of positive energy, so I'm thinking that must have been a dominantly Sativa strain.
Does this sound right? I'm considering getting a very premium sack of Sativa soon after all this has come to light, and giving it a smoke, but am teeter-tottering on whether it's going to be worth the hefty investment - probably around $80 for an eighth.

I think you should definitely get the Sativa. It could make all the difference.
I'm convinced that whatever I am smoking right now is also a Sativa dominant hybrid. I feel energetic and I don't come down for hours. It's hard to sleep and my head is always abuzz. This is the first Sativa I have ever had, but I kind of like it.
I appreciate both Sativa and Indica
I paid $120 for a quarter

Yeah sativa might be just what you need.
I prefer it when I have the extra money to spend. But the fact of the matter is that indicas grow faster and produce more, so therefore they are cheaper and more plentiful. To get a really good sativa I have to go to the club and find some real jack herrer, that is as close to a pure sativa as I have every had I think.
Right now I'm sitting on an ounce of kush and it is major sleepy weed. Could really go for an uplifting buzz. But this is like 1/3 the price, literally, and equally potent. So what can you do?

The only thing I can find right now is 3.5 grams of almost 100% Sativa hash called "Satori" for a little under $90, but no actual buds have turned up so far in my 100% Sativa hunt. Just not sure if hash would add up the same, I know certain other things get filtered out in the process of making it, and have no idea whether those be the chemicals I may want or not want.
