this is getting a little stressful
    #14029781 - 02/26/11 10:47 AM (12 years, 10 months ago)

alright so i search, i search, i search and more search and it seems like everybody contradicts everyone else. i guess because of the experience/ method of cultivation.

if you follow my journal there is an in depth of how i got to this point.

im getting quite a few aborts

it seems like i started to get a black rim around my caps after i had poked a hole on the bottom of the fc to drain it of standing water.

thats my set up.

i got a humidifier that i got running 12/12 off w/ my 40 watt bulb they both go on together, am i doing this right? any suggestions?

i got 6 pint jars almost 100% colonized i dont want them to go into a bad home i also have that large rubber maid on the bottom which i plan to plant a whole new set of cakes but thats near furutre, suggestions? comments? remarks?

my advice to you is too always look at dates when you are searching. Teks chage all the time so things that may hav e been popular years ago can be different now. Just follow some up to date teks and youll be golden .

The humidifier being on 12/12 is the problem, I'd say. You need to keep the RH up & what's happening is that you're RH is dropping significantly at night, or when your humidifier is off for 12 hours.

Try & get the thing dialed in w/ a more on/off/on/off schedule in an hour. You want your RH between 85% & 99%.

I'd recommend getting a precision timer or, at least, one that you can adjust to on/off every 15 minutes. I got one of the latter from Wally world for about $10, the precisions are more expensive (60-100) depending where you find it & what brand. I got mine for my fogger online for around $65 shipped to my door.

Also, what rating is that light? It should be 6500K on a 12/12 schedule...

You'll probably end up drowning them w/ water if it's on 24/7...

You can go to any hardware store, check the lighting section & pick up a blue-daylight bulb rated @ 6500K...

I'm sure that lamp isn't enough...

It's not the heat of the lamp, it's the color scale that you need. I use a "regular" light bulb that's rated @ 6500K.

I'm not sure what you mean about the "black rim"?

The aborts are most likely due to the lack of RH...I know when I was dialing in my GH w/ colonized substrates, I had some odd looking guys due to fluctuating temps & RH

Mess w/ your humidifier too buddy. Or just make a Shot Gun Fruiting Chamber (SGFC), they're really the best way to go for BRF cakes.

1/4" holes, every 2", on all six sides.
4"+ moist perlite.

It looks like they could do with some fresh air.

Mycelium uses light as a pinning trigger and the source itself as a direction of growth. (maybe why your fruits look aimless)

Ya, fresh air. If you don't have some holes for airflow (hard to tell in pics) leaving the humidifier off for 12 hours can cause problems. Easiest way to fix that is to put some holes near the bottom and top, and keep the perlite moist.

I'm not sure light is a problem, looks okay from the pictures.

CFL bulbs rated at 65000k

the higher the watts the further you can have it away from the lid of the tub

I had a 27w=100w

Heat zapps the RH right out of a tub:super:

Sometimes I grow with the lights off, my fruits still grow straight up:shrug:

That's because fruits grow more towards FAE....

the white growing on the cake is mycelium, and the shrooms look like you need more FAE. you don't NEED 80%-99 humid but for best results it should be, and i think they pin faster at a higher humid level.
