I would agree with that for sure. Now we just need to prove our hypothesis.....

I'm saying the temp peaks and then drops off, and you could use the dropoff to time fruiting. In theory, y'know. But that's tubs, not jars.
...
We need to start an Early Morning Chat thread in Mush Cult, instead of just jacking whatever thread is at the top of the list.

Story: I'm looking at testing the myth that jars can heat themselves up over room temp.
Before jars, I used a tub, because I know they can do it. Stuck a tub inside a styrofoam cooler with a temp probe lead, and the readout outside.
Well, I got up to about 72F, in a home that rarely gets to 70. So yeah there's some heat buildup, but not much.
You're joking right?
It's -20F outside here and the only source of heat in my dry room is the colonizing substrates. I have to keep the window cracked open to prevent the room from overheating. If I shut the window, it would rise well above 80F in there within a few hours, even during these cold temperatures. A five pound substrate block will easily generate fifteen to twenty degrees above ambient.
Using too much fresh air during spawn run will speed up colonization, but at the expense of consuming much of the substrate. Keeping a high CO2 level will slow down colonization somewhat, but leave more of the substrate in place for fruiting. Low level ambient light will also slightly speed colonization. RR

Two different things. Bags and tubs get measurably warm as I said upthread and have said many times. I've never seen it in jars in any configuration, and I've looked.
A room full of big blocks gets pretty tropical, I'm sure. And the room full of jars that Stamets shows in TMC probably did too.
But that's not relevant to the guy growing some cakes or a few grain jars. As far as I've ever been able to prove, anyway.

I know i haven't been around much for a little while, but i'm grateful to all the members who have contributed over the years. Most especially Ythan for getting things started back in the dim reaches of antiquity.
I'd say thanks to all of the rest of you, but i'm busy making sure i am up to date with the mycology world. Life came up and i wasn't here, but i'm sure happy to see some old faces and be back in the thick of things.
Prof Pinhead thanks for starting this thread and thank you and several of the other notable members who have been thanked already.

Prof_P, great Idea
I think we all know where I am going with this one...
Boris has guided me and shared his techniques and knowledge. He has been an an inspiration of strength and character in mycology and real life. I am positive I would have left the shroomery after my first post had it not been for Boris. Boris is a true innovator and Shroomery's modern day Agar
Leopardman Is very dear to my heart and is one of my best friends and an excellent cultivator
13shrooms has nursed me through my first grow, as I freaked out because I thought my sporulated caps had come down with black mold or any number of silly n00blet freakouts 13, shows us just how powerful the Search function really is and is there to remind us it is about helping people out. 13shrooms has also helped me out in real life stuff
Faceyneck, has been steering me in the right direction with "golden Nuggets" of info and a perspective just not found anywhere else. Always lends a helping hand and always interested in the person and their struggle, in real life and mycology not just the question. Facey is a true genuine artifact
Ozzy, Monotub king, passionate and always very helpful, we need more like him.
Crp32008, gave me more insight and knowledge in one day then 3months of reading 8 hours a day.
Myco_alchemist or Myco-agar-mist or myco_a we miss you, comeback and save us...lol
Hamloaf, a staple of the community and keeps the old school/old hand spirit alive.
Damion5050, for bringing a lot to the table and sharing like it aint no thing.
Workman, for being humble enough to actually chat it up via PM with a n00b and help an aspiring breeder.
BaseIcks, Solid guy, great info a true shroomerite. cant even count how many times he has helped me.
RR, No matter what, we all know things just wouldnt be the same without him, I would have never become a member had it not been for him.
Anonjon, for providing an example of what not to be. here is your reward
I missed soooo many others, I love the shroomery and thank you for the good vibes in this thread we need more of it around here.
Oh and I agree, Jokey should be in there too
