The Offical Shroomery Distinguished Teaching Awards * 2
    #14027343 - 02/25/11 08:09 PM (13 years, 8 days ago)

A good teacher is like a candle - it consumes itself to light the way for others.

I am starting this thread with the intention of acknowledging our predecessor's hard work in the field of mycology.

I know I am far from alone here when I say that I have a passion for fungi which germinated from some spores I picked up years ago here at The Shroomery.

This is a place for you to leave your story or shout outs to any of the community members, active or not, here at The Shroomery who may have helped you to organize the skills and knowledge you needed to meet success growing mushrooms!

- Professor PinHead

Here it goes .....

I would like to thank the following members for their contribution to the Shroomery & present my distinguished teaching awards to.....

-RR -RoadKill -Anno -Ohmatic

Good idea, Prof! It would be cool to receive awards for achieving certain goals, or something to that nature, on here. Haha.

I would like to acknowledge you, Professor Pinhead, as a very knowledgable, supportive, and exceptionally gifted member! You've been prompt with replies and additional information regarding my questions. Thank you, sir! +:mushroom2: :mushroom2::mushroom2: :mushroom2::mushroom2:

I just started growing musshies for the first time, and I couldn't have done it without this site and the wise teachers that are on this site.

"If I have seen father than others, it is because I have stood upon the shoulders of giants."

I'm passing on what I learned from the guys mentioned above, RR, agar, Roadkill, etc. Also Stamets of course.

But lots and lots of learning from every day conversations here with all the members.
Just asking and answering questions is how new ideas come out and how old ones get analyzed.

And lots of stellar and innovative posts too- Stonesun was mentioned above.
Happens frequently that somebody comes up with a whole new thing- look at Cervantes' thread about sclerotia.
Changed the whole way we look at things with one post.

Speaking of new ideas- I heard colonizing tubs in bags is outdated? I've always done it like that.
Don't mean to threadjack, so if somebody could link me...

Many growers have helped and inspired me.

Those named already, for certain. (RR, Doc, SS, etc)

I also learned alot from

Shea25
Lipa
Hamloaf
cloneUFC
Uncle Rico

the list goes on

I love the older growers/posters even if they are not around too
much these days...Mycoalchemist, The Chosen One, ... so many helpful people.

I am reminded of Perl, my favorite language.  The single most amazing
thing about perl is it's community.

Take care,

JD

P.S. Anyone missed....you know who you are.  Thanks!

I used to put my monos in black bags and stuff the poly as tight as I could. Then I decided upon someone insisting that it worked... I can't even remember who it was, I was baked at the time and it was forever ago. Any,way I decided because I have a few tubs per go around going I would risk a couple and lighten up on things.
Here is a recent link to someone I have helped out recently. I get PM's all the time with noobs having problems with monotubs. The funniest thing is they are all having exactly the same issues I used to have. On a much larger scale being noobs.

RR backed up the info and I decided to just apply lighting from start to finish. I lightened up big time on how tightly the poly goes in and stop black bagging it.

My whole cycle turns over in 25 days ever since.

p.s. I don't mind these kind of thread jacks!

Hmm...When I was a lurker, I prolly learned the most from..
RR
Agar
Ohmatic
Roadkill
tahoe

When I started cultivating cubes

RR The process maker, clear and concise info like a text book. wouldn't be where I am with out his posts available.

Damien5050 was a huge help and inspiration for my flowhood.

DocT prolly saved my ass a few times. He might have made me buthertz once or twice in the process also.:lmafo:

Andymc is always helpful with quality posts

The prof. had great tips for my first run of PE....I think I found what I was looking for with these cubies in that special strain.

There are more, but off the top of my head during the smokey haze of my saturday morning their names escape me.

Now that been through a thousand or so mono's
I enjoy posting and absorbing info from just about everyone one on the board.
After doing this for a few years, I still realize the value of this community and the people that strive to make it great .

In the future, I would like to emulate Stonesuns posting style. Always a class act and IMO the one best here at at the Shroomery.

Thanks everyone, may you never run out of baggies.
