It's a documetary about some conspiracy bullshit, they named it Zeitgeist to confuse us decent folk, I also thought it might be about the spirit of our times...

I must admit

just watch the 3rd latest one instead the creator of the films has stated many times how he hates his first zeitgeist film and that its filled with a bunch of inaccuracies and is poorly thought out. he advises ppl against watching his first film because hes embarrassed by it

his ideas have evolved alot over time since he met Jacque Fresco and started talking about the Venus Project and the 2nd and 3rd movies are a lot better and focuses more on solutions in lieu of bombashing the government and :tinfoil: conspiracies

I must admit I really like a lot of the ideas this guy puts out and they seem to merit attention, but IMO the conspiracy theories do nothing but discredit him...

I've heard this from a lot of people though, including people who bash the first film, so I actually might check out the sequels with an open mind one of these days.

Zeitgeist is propaganda film in the form of conspiracy theories in an attempt to get stupid people to put their faith in science and progress rather than religion and tradition.

Perhaps their intent is honorable. Many people probably are simply too stupid and/or lazy to understand the actual reasons why blind acceptance of religious doctrine, ignorance about the affairs of authority figures, and stubborn unwillingness to adapt to our changing environment are selfish and self-defeating ways to live. So, instead of giving people the actual reasons for why they should stop being lazy, selfish idiots, Zeitgeist gives people fantastic-sounding lies that will trick them into being less lazy, selfish, and stupid. "Oh my god, the government is lying to me! Oh my god, the religious people are lying to me! Oh my god, I can't trust anyone! But since I'm stupid, I'm going to trust the next thing somebody tells me without bothering to fact-check it." Presumably, once people have acquired this attitude, they will be less apathetic about their selfish/ignorant behaviors, even if only for selfish/ignorant reasons that you conjured out of thin air. An imperfect plan, to be sure- but better than nothing, right? Tough question. All of this is based on the assumption that the creators of Zeitgeist are not actually as stupid as they would have to be to believe half the stuff they put in their videos (which I believe is probably the case).

Unfortunately, it hasn't seemed to be very conducive to positive change. As far as I can tell, the only difference is that I see "9/11 was an inside job" all over the place. There are some people who go around every day here in Houston with signs about about 9/11 was botched and the Federal Reserve this and the CIA that and blah blah... but they are never really doing anything, because they are all just hipsters who do nothing with their lives but smoke weed and and ride their fixies around and complain about how they can't do anything with their lives because they are being oppressed.

It's sad to me that zeitgeist is associated with the Venus Project, cuz I kind of like the venus project

Ignore the first film. The second and third ones aren't about conspiracy bullshit.

They do go off for awhile about people who fought against the business and banking cartels and what happened to them (usually either deposed or killed).

You'll learn a lot about the way our economy works, too. They make it really easy to understand.

But really, Zeitgeist: Moving Forward is the only one that puts all the conspiracy nonsense aside and talks just about how sick society is and what can be done to fix it.

Zeitgeist debunked.  The film is pure fiction.

That's why people need to skip the first one. The second and third ones weren't just independent research. He put a lot of effort in to them and got a lot of experts to talk about things.

It's hard to tell if the people bashing on Zeitgeist are bashing all of them or just the first one.  Clarification?

They're bashing on the first one because the first one has a part on religions that was based mostly on the work of one author, whose work was later proven wrong, and the second part is about 9/11, which is a divisive subject on its own.

Really, the first one is a bunch of conspiracy shit that detracts from the very important themes of the second and third movies. Peter Joseph should have given the films different names because now every member of the Zeitgeist Movement is followed by the original movie and all the shit that got proven wrong.

The first Zeitgeist movie is utter shit.  The second two movies where they talk about the Venus Project presents some good ideas, but they have this vibe of "this is the only way," which I think is bullshit.  There are aspects of the Venus Project worth discussing, but they use these underhanded cult recruiting tactics to make it an us vs. them battle, where anyone who disagrees with them is just propping up the status quo(something I've been repeatedly accused of by their mindless drones).

This was mostly the impression I got while reading about all this stuff on Wikipedia. It's like, neat ideas man, y'wanna drop the whole personal-army thing so we can work together here?

I hope he freezes his brain when he dies and has it installed in a self-repairing robot and then takes over the world and makes us all bow down in worship.

How did you get the idea that The Zeitgeist Movement sees The Venus Project as the only way? Peter Joseph has said multiple times that we only support the Venus Project so much because it's the best idea yet.

And at least TZM is fucking doing something, trying to get the word out that it's time for a change. Although I do agree that some members are overzealous about recruiting.

Wait...now there's a movement behind it? This is getting creepy...

A dude posted this in another thread, It fits I think:

Quote:

The Dunning–Kruger effect is a cognitive bias in which unskilled people make poor decisions and reach erroneous conclusions, but their incompetence denies them the metacognitive ability to appreciate their mistakes.[1] The unskilled therefore suffer from illusory superiority, rating their ability as above average, much higher than it actually is, while the highly skilled underrate their own abilities, suffering from illusory inferiority. This leads to the situation in which less competent people rate their own ability higher than more competent people. It also explains why actual competence may weaken self-confidence. Competent individuals falsely assume that others have an equivalent understanding. "Thus, the miscalibration of the incompetent stems from an error about the self, whereas the miscalibration of the highly competent stems from an error about others.
