Agar dishes...air tight or breathable?
    #14025422 - 02/25/11 01:06 PM (12 years, 11 months ago)

If a person uses a small jar for an agar nutrient dish in place of a petri dish, should the lid be air tight or allow gas exchange?  Could a tyvek lid due?

a pf jar sealed will have enough oxygen in it to support myc growth on a flat agar surface just fine.

you could use a GE filter if you want.

no need though.

For agar jars, I prefer undrilled plastic lids, but undrilled metal lids upside down work too.
If you have lids with filters already made you can use them but the agar dries out pretty fast.

You make it all possible. Doesn't it feel good?
