All Mac software from the internet mostly comes in .dmg format, which is pretty much just an iso disc image.
So disc utility should mount it, if you double click.

You need to find a Mac version of an image-mounting software like Daemon Tools or similar. Then create a virtual drive, and mount to that. Run like a normal CD. Not familiar with macs though. You get less for your money, and when it breaks have fun fixing it.
Linux is my fav, but isn't completely supported for gaming yet .

No need. It's built into the OS.

I'm not getting a .dmg file when I mount the disk. Maybe I need to download another one that will be .dmg.

It doesnt have to be dmg. It mounts most disc images, including iso.
Also why dont you just download 10.6?

That's because you mount the file from within the operating system. Once you reboot, the OS isn't running anymore and can't read the file. You need to either burn it to disk from within the disk utility or you need to create a startup disk (also in the disk utility). If you can burn/read DUAL LAYER dvds that's probably the easiest way to go. Otherwise, you'll need an external hard drive to use as a startup disk. If you have an ipod laying around, that will work. Just be aware that you will be losing all data on the partition that you choose to use. I create an 8 gig partition at the beginning of my 2TB drive and use that.

hey try downloading a version of Toast. i downloaded mine off a warez site. it recognizes the disk image as cd, if i'm understanding you correctly.

That's the program, I paid for an account on a warez site, but i'm sure you can find it on a torrent site somewhere. I had to do this for my computer to read a music program i downloaded.

Ah. Yeah that might be a problem if its rebooting, and needs / asks for the disc.
I thought it might upgrade from inside the OS. And be done with it.

You don't need any software for this other than what is already built into the OS.

i suppose if you dont have an 8gb thumb drive or external hdd, you could use a partition manager of some sort to resize your internal hdd and create an 8gb partition.... then use disk utility to restore your leopard dmg to it, and ultimately when rebooting hold down the option key to select that partition to boot from.
