Face it ... the drugs don't work

THESE shocking before and after images reveal in stark and simple terms the cost drug addiction takes on the human face.
The harrowing images are featured in the controversial film 'From Drugs to Mugs' - the follow up to the 2004 'Faces of Meth' project which highlighted the effects of methamphetamine use.
The pictures, which show how addicts have lost teeth and scratched their skin to the bone, were released in the hope that they will make kids think twice about ever touching drugs.
New photographs show the first arrest of a drug user partnered up with a picture taken in some cases only three months later.
US cops at the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office in the state of Oregon put together the collection, which features users of all hard drugs including cocaine, heroin and meth.
Revulsion
Deputy Bret King, 45, who was instrumental in putting together the original Faces of Meth project in 2004, said: "Faces of Meths went round the world, it captured people's revulsion and imagination.
"As I was putting together the project and touring the country trying to highlight the effects of meth on people, I had a nagging feeling that I knew I wasn't bringing the whole picture to people's attention.
"Every single person I booked and interviewed who was not just a meth addict but a heroin user or a coke-head had started on some seemingly innocent drug like alcohol or cannabis.
"Everyone experiments at college or school and I want From Drugs to Mugs to show kids that everyone in those pictures started on cannabis, they didn't just dive head first into heroin.
"So I ask the students at schools to look at these people and think about their actions, otherwise that could end up being you."
Faced with an endemic drug problem in the north west of the United States, the Multnomah Sheriff's Office has also produced a heart-wrenching educational documentary to aid in its fight against young people turning to drugs.
Deputy King added: "I want to be able to illustrate the connection between that first decision to use drugs and then down the road when it's a horrible mess."
Expanding their presentation which is to be aired in high schools across America, deputy King and his team interviewed 300 adult inmates at Multnomah County's Inverness Jail.
Deputy King said: "We estimate that out of the 2000 or so inmates here over half have tried and used hard drugs.
"The average age of those surveyed for From Drugs to Mugs claimed they tried their first drugs or alcohol at the age of 12.
"In all we realised that 3,975 arrests could be attributed to these 300 inmates, some of which could be attributed to drugs and some not directly.
"However, drug abuse was an overriding factor in their lives and on average between those 300 they shared 13.25 arrests per inmate."
By far the starkest images that deputy King and his team produce are the mug shots of drug users at the time of their first arrest and their resulting physical deterioration.
Warning
One drug user interviewed in prison for Drugs to Mugs, said: "I don't own a house, I don't own an apartment, I don't have a banking account, I have zero money, I don't have nothing to show from my time on earth.
"Drugs and alcohol has led to me having nothing today."
Deputy King added: "We want everyone, not just high school kids to look at these pictures and to be shocked.
"I'd like From Drugs to Mugs to gain the notoriety Faces of Meth did because it's a better program. It's likely to impact the decisions of more people.
"I used to go through booking pictures and see the deterioration of these individuals and that is what shocked me into producing Faces of Meth and now From Drugs to Mugs."
Perhaps the most heart-wrenching portion of the new video is an interview with Washington County Judge Tom Kohl, whose daughter Meghan, a meth user, was murdered in 2006 at age 21 in connection with her drug habit.
Through teary eyes, Kohl recalls Meghan's happy childhood, as well as the night when police officers arrived at his door to tell him his daughter was dead.
It is King's hope that the video will show teens how easy it is to fall into drug habits.
Another resigned drug user explained from inside his prison cell: "I miss watching the sun come up, I miss the normal stuff. I missed out on a normal life and I know that."

ha this may shock middle schoolers, I doubt anyone whose ever used cannabis would really buy into this shit. I mean hell the picture on the top right the guy clearly broke his nose..I'm sure Meth or Heroin didn't punch him in the face and break it. And they look so disheveled from being homeless rather than directly from the drugs.

These things make me really sad.
Is this where our tax dollars go? To provide for the public exhibition, ridicule and belittlement of people who have had such horribly difficult lives you can read it on their faces? It makes me sick.
EDIT: Is it just me, or does the guy second from the bottom on the left look just like Muammar Gaddafi in his after pic?

Okay we know meth will mess your face up if you use it enough, and cocaine will make you lose weight, so these are drugs and that's what they do to you. They should also show the aclcoholic with acites and cerosis of the liver. They should show people that have fluids leaking from their stomach from drinking to much alcohol for so long. hmmm. I wonder what a pot head will look like it 20 years, oh that's right he will look the same besides the natural aging. These people choose to do what they want and should be able to. If they are addicted and they decide they want help, great, but if not then no one should tell them what they can and cannot do with their bodies. Just like this drug and society class I'm taking, some of the people I'm in class with really thinks marijuana will make you kill people, be violent, and all the other lies people spread about drugs. I find it interesting that these people will defend alcohol but they think marijuana is a devil drug. They shouldn't do this to these people. They are real people with real problems and they need help and not to be laughed at. I hope the person filming this gets electocuted and burns his face then we can show his film to teach kids to not play with electricity.

These films operate on the essential premise that these people made a pact with the Devil, and then the Devil exacted his toll upon their faces.
The reality is that these people have had miserable lives and can't conceive of any way to cope with it other than taking amounts of drugs that would make Charlie Sheen blush. You'll notice none of them look particularly happy or healthy before they hit their nadirs. They are victims of a system that doesn't care about them.
It's fucking sickening that the people who put time, money and resources into this exploitation film actually think they're helping people somehow.

I agree. These people need humane treatment and hospitalization, not public ridicule and incarceration.

My point was it doesn't cause the harm alcohol causes like diseases, and make you look like a meth head? That was basicly my point. However I never knew smoking herbs will make you age faster. cool to hear.

Alcohol can fuck you up pretty badly appearance-wise depending on how badly you overdo it.
It's not the drugs that are fucking these people up but the lifestyles in which they find themselves. Heroin, coke, and meth are involved but to hold the drugs responsible is like blaming the invasion of Iraq on fighter jets and machine guns.
This is a documentary that tells our children people are homeless or incarcerated not because of social problems endemic in our country, but because of bogeymen.

So stop smoking ganja? Lungs are supposed to have in them whatever you put in them.
If you're concerned about health effects, eat or vaporize.
The effects of smoking cannabis are probably no more unhealthy than lying out in the sun all day. Neither is a biological necessity, both may be "harmful", but in minuscule quantities.

I am glad i dont use many drugs when i see this meth faces. The only (hard)drugs i use is tabacco and sometimes alcohol. For the rest i just smoke cannabis but thats no drugs for me. It is my medicine. Smoking cannabis heals your lungs, its just one of the many media lies that smoking cannabis is like smoking 20 cigarettes. Dont believe that war on cannabis propaganda. Cannabis keeps you young.

Aside from these people most likely not giving permission to have their photos on display (as they are wrongly treated as criminals), I think these photos are a good reminder of the dangers of hard drugs. Drugs can be good and they can be bad, just because something warns of the bad side of drugs, does not mean it is wrong in doing so. Sometimes I feel that the shroomery community is in some sort of denial of how dangerous drugs can be. I don't think education is bad as long as it is objective and accurate. These photos are obviously objective examples of some of the dangers that go along with certain drugs.
