On november 6 2007 I created and posted the following image:

That caused some lulz at my expense. We are nowhere near Nov 6 2017 yet, in fact we are at about at 1/3 of the journey, and silver is already in that range, at around $33.
And we talked about gold too before and after, such as this 1oz gold bullion coin:

It was going for about $700 at the time and we were on and on about how gold was gonna go up. Today it would easily fetch $1405 - it too has more than doubled.
Seeing a pattern here? We did one doubling. Maybe, just maybe, there will be another before the decade is out. And maybe, just maybe there will be another doubling yet - quadrupling what you put in now.
I'm not the only one occasionally bringing up the topic of precious metals, and in fact I'm not the first one either. Here at the Shroomery, people like Zorbman have been lighting the path for longer than the few years I joined their ranks.
Getting in on the action can be done at any level, from the few bucks it costs to pick up a silver quarter, to.. well, the sky is the limit really.
Its important to know what the gold and silver price is on the day you buy or sell and how much gold and silver is contained, and get the best price thats possible.
If you know what you're doing you might make good trades with a local coin shop or even a pawn shop, and there are other alternatives.
Some simple rules:
--only use money you can afford to part with for years on end. Cutting back on dr00gs and needless expenses and investing the surplus is a good way to assure that. --know your shit and realize theres risk involved. --physical metal only. If you can't physically hold it, you don't own it. Most "paper gold" and "paper silver" are empty promises, theres many times more silver that is promised on paper, than there actually is. Its a have/have not game, like musical chairs. --keep it in a safe place, like a guarded value storage place that rents out boxes but not at a bank because if the shit hits the fan your bullion may not be safe there. --gold and silver are measured in ounces, but they are not normal ounces (28.4gr) but troy ounces (31.1gr). Don't overpay or undersell, know your shit and keep tabs on the current prices, especially when there are big world events.
Everyone who can sacrifice a few bucks can get in, a US silver quarter contains 0.18 oz pure silver and at current prices can be had for about six bucks. Maybe, possibly that will double to $12. Maybe, possibly, perhaps it will double again to $24. If something bad happens to the dollar along the way, theres no telling how high it may go. If a major event takes place, there can be a huge spike, like in 1979 on Silver Thursday when the price of silver jumped from $6/oz to an all-time record high of $48.70/oz in one day, increasing in value eight times.
Remember, do your own due dilligence and really research this for yourself, dont buy into stuff we gold and silver bugs tell you without finding your own facts. Its your decision and the risk is yours and yours alone.
A good point of view is to consider it a lottery, a lottery where the odds are very good, and your ticket will always be worth something.
Have a fine day!

Oh i'm not skeptic. I know exactly why gold is rising, and for good measure. But you tout it around like its something to be had in your pocket at all times. Gold is only worth something to you when you trade it for paper money and use that papery money to buy tangible goods that better your current situation - wahtever those needs may be.
Until then, you've just got heavy pockets.
Personally, I (like most here) don't have excess wealth -- definitely not enough to consider holding it in an illiquid asset. And the small wealth I do accumulate ($70 here, $100 there) is much better spent saved for times when a big bill is due, or something like a car accident happens.
Until I'm wealthy (god willing [joke, i know it has nothing to do with him]), I will have little use for precious metals (and I certainly won't still be here to tell you if i did)

@ Wiccan Are the silver quarters for around $6 available at banks? If not, where do you purchase them and if you are uber poor like me, is that a worthwhile way to collect silver?

If you are uber poor, you have other priorities. If its at all possible, economize further on your spendings. If possible, stock op on food - especially if you find yourself eating out or ordering because you dont have food in your home, unexpected guests, stores closed cause you were stoned, or more such very common shenanigans.
My advice to anyone is to have at meast a month's worth of food and drink in your home at all times, and rotate it so it won't spoil. Food prices will go up and buying in bulk saves you a buck right now, so even that is an investment, and potentially a very convenient and tasty one.
You have a special crisis to be prepared for: a bunch of bills piling up on you and you being out of money for weeks until the next paycheck. If your pantry is stocked, eating well at least won't be one of your concerns.
Uncooked spaghetti, macaroni or rice should be possible to get for less than $1 a kilo, comprising some 3500 kcal and 80-120 grams of protein. That makes a fine staple to build a meal from. It's good to have some of that, keeps for at least a couple of years too.
Local coin & pawn shops may have small bullion, and the price may be wrong or right so stay sharp and watch percentages, even the realy small ones.
Outdated local silver coinage is fondly called junk silver and is a valid way to get physical silver. Many people who can afford the big silver bars still opt for junk silver, as it often is possible the get the biggest number of silver grams for your dollar, euro or pound. My own hoard, worthy of a rather small dragon, is comprised for the most part of junk silver, in our former local silver currency.

Yep. I do this quite well, I must say (::backpat::)
I buy most of my main meal-comprising items at costco ($12 for 50lb bag of rice). Spaghetti, chicken breasts, deli meat, etc. Eggs I get from farm fresh because they're the same price -- $3.18 for 2.5dozen. And TUNA!
Cheap ass meals are the way to go.

Dude, I cook all my own food. Use sales and coupons. I don't buy a bunch of processed foods and have a pantry bursting at the seams with dry goods such as beans, rice etc. The staples that will get me through for months should the need arise. And not because I'm afraid of doomsday but just because of how I was raised. I also grow and can/preserve my own vegetables, juices and sauces. And I'm not a 19 year old kid looking to score my next bag of weed. I realize that I'm not the norm for a site like this so I understand your mildly condescending reply. However: You said that there were coins available that would be in reach of my financial situation but my searches only turn up older, more valuable coins. So... What are these silver quarters that you speak of? Thank you.

And those "cheap ass meals" often are a lot healthier because you're using basic foods mostly, rather than buy processed foods that often are full of crap.

It wasnt inteded as such, sorry for that, but its quite common here to have next to no money, but spend a few hundred a month on weed and often order out.

FYI - its about empty.

While I wouldn't expect you to understand that Ben Bernanke's decisions have helped our economy to keep from falling into oblivion (whatchya know about commercial paper?), let me just assure you that its true.

Whose tie is that in Bernanke's Chair? Oh its mine. And yes, i farted in it, a LOT.
But I'm not going to turn this into a bernanke thread - so i'll leave it at that.

I hope you're past that broke phase now Meams, wow.
$12 on 50lbs rice is an epic deal, I'm sure you'll pick up a new bag when this one runs out.
I have a small 3gal storage box on my kitchen counter that I top off with 20lb bags of rice, and a scoop I made from a HDPE vitamin pot that holds exactly 1 portion of rice. Bring water to a boil, toss in as many scoops of rice as you need that day, stir and proceed stirfrying the rest of the food, 10 min later: dinnertime!

Noooooooooope sorry wiccan. profit is not realized until you cash in on that gold. What you're doing now is equivalent to a 12yr old thats super happy that his cock is getting bigger. Aint worth shit till ya use it, bubbadick. Except in your scenario, (with the analogy applied) its only worth shit when you chop off your dick - or portions of it.
