Dry verm layer got a little moist
    #14019468 - 02/24/11 11:33 AM (12 years, 11 months ago)

hi, when i sterilized my BRF jars, i used tin foil for the lids, so it wasn't 100% air tight, when i inoculated, i had one extra jar that i did not have any more spores left, so i opened it up, and found that the what was supposed to be dry verm layer, had gotten a little moist, im guessing from the vapors going up, my question is one of my jars is already id say 95% colonized, i looked at the top of the jar and it seems like some of the colonization is moving on to the "dry verm layer" should i wait for it to cover the whole entire cake ( including the "dry" verm layer, or am i just seeing things, im not completely sure if its colonizing it but i dont wanna birth it while still in colonization. It is only vermiulite at the time, no brown rice flower, would it be able to colonize just verm that is barely moist?

Thank you

The dry verm layer may or may not colonize, ok either way.
When the brf/verm part gets to 100%, wait a full week after that. Then birth.
