Man arrested for Sandoz LSD 2

Some thread yesterday got me thinking about a story that was posted here at The Shroomery 5 or 6 years ago. It was about a man who was arrested for possessing an old Sandoz LSD bottle that still had acid in it. I can't find the story now and really don't know how to go about searching for it. But I wish I could, because it was an interesting story. I remember how heartbroken a lot of us were when we read it. This man had such an amazing artifact from LSD history and it was lost because the police searched his house for an unrelated reason and stumbled upon it.
The bottle would have been produced anywhere from the 40's up to 1966. Who knows if the contents were still active. Probably not. But it's such a shame that it was lost and that this man probably did jail or prison time on top of it. Anyone else remember this story?

Wow that really is a shame. The history of LSD is quite interesting and to think that a part of was simply "taken away" for the sole sake of doing so is disenheartening.

I doubt it was still active after all these years. Still and all, it belongs in a museum, not some police evidence locker.

im sure it was bunk after these years.. that could certainly get him off.. his contest is that the contents are no longer LSD which is true if it has broken down.. and probrably get the bottle back if he tried hard enough..

Worse yet, it was almost certainly destroyed.

Good point. Perhaps it was tested, found not active, and then returned. I hope so.

Sandoz LSD was packaged properly and will still be plenty active.

How can you say for sure, given that the bottle may not have been cared for?

By the way, some Sandoz bottles were up for auction on ebay the other week. Original box with 3 empty ampules went for $1,800.

Wow! I agree with Alan, unless it was UV irradiated, it most likely was still active and not broken down...I used to always look on eBay for those vials, but now I'm too broke

I don't know. Wouldn't heat and time be the enemy of even a factory sealed vial of LSD?
BTW, check out this site The Herb Museum. They have pictures of tons of old drug bottles. They have a Sandoz LSD bottle and even a Sandoz psilocybin bottle! Not to mention an endless collection of extremely old cannabis concoction bottles.

Damn, this is crazy. Imagine if that acid was still good... that would be amazing. Even having an empty bottle would be awesome. Homage to a time before the man got the fear..

Supposing it was stored properly...
From Erowid http://www.erowid.org/chemicals/lsd/lsd_article2.shtml
Quote:
"An unopened, brown-glass vial of 1951 Sandoz LSD-25 (Delysid) was contributed to a gathering in celebration of Albert Hofmann's 100th birthday. The vial had been in the possession of a single person for the last 30+ years, stored casually, mostly in darkness. When opened, the powder was a very light brown-sugar to salmon color. One chemist described the fluffy, clumpy, sparkly crystalline powder as looking like "crushed needles". It was weighed and dissolved into four-ounce liquid doses containing between 100 and 110 micrograms each (± 10%)."
Storage & Degradation Although the vial was completely sealed, without cracks, one of the major questions was whether there would be significant loss of potency by degradation as a result of the 55 years that had passed since it was manufactured. After trying it, the predominant opinion among the more than 70 participants and observers was that there was no detectable loss in potency.
This was the clearest result from the reported experiment: air-tight brown glass appears to be a very effective long-term storage method for LSD. After 55 years, stored at varying room temperatures, the LSD seemed to be fully potent.
Also here's a cool quote here - Shroomerite with a (Bromo) LSD vial http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/9526588#9526588

Apparently these were 'acquired' from a university, and the people had no idea what they were and gave them away, so these literally fell into my lap. Sorry about the blurriness of the first pic, let me assure you I have no photo shop skills what-so-ever. From what I've read, if stored in the dark, they should retain potency. And no, please do not PM me. I do not have them for sale. This is not an auction. I got one for $50 and am working with a collector to buy the rest now that the 'vendor' knows of its quality/price. Thank you all for your input.

70? How many people tripped? Where did that trip take place? Did Hofmann partake? I have so many questions. As for the bromo vial, I did see that. In fact, I posted that in this thread and then quickly deleted it after reading the rest of the thread and seeing that it was Bromo, which I don't even know anything about. It's still really cool that he has it though.

Well it does say 70 people participated. It was at Albert Hofmann's 100th birthday conference in Basel, Switzerland January 2006.
It says the vial was 25mg, so it is 250 100ug doses - so that means there was actually more of this floating around...
I don't think Hofmann himself partook.
The bromo variation of LSD is inactive orally, but is used in migrane/cluster headache research, as it has many of the properties of LSD, minus the psychedelic effects, so of course mainstream medicine loves that...

I was watching a discovery (or natgeo, i get em confused) and they were saying that in small studies, the bromo-lsd was essentially a cure for cluster head aches. but there were no plans to continue studying or possibly releasing it on the market. Simply because it had (inactive) LSD in it, if i had the FUCKING horrible cluster headaches like they showed on the video i would have either committed suicide or started making my own lsd by now.... it is such bullshit the way the pharmaceutical companies and the government have screwed people with cluster head aches.

Shrooms are effective in treating cluster headaches too, the Shroomery's cultivation info is in fact helping some people cope with one of the worlds most agonizing illnesses.

you know what??
yeah, the contents probably WOULDN'T have been active, but why would you keep a 70 year old bottle of lsd with lsd in it for the sake of nostalgia? LMAO. that is a lot of lsd, and for nostalgic sake, why keep the lsd in the bottle?
idk, sucks though
