Music Review by Richie Unterberger
In February 1970, Syd Barrett performed five songs for John Peel's show on the BBC, accompanied by Jerry Shirley on drums and Dave Gilmour on guitar. Besides reprising "Terrapin" from his first album, the session featured three of the strongest tunes from his second LP, "Gigolo Aunt," "Baby Lemonade," and (a very brief) "Effervescing Elephant." This five-song EP also includes the bouncy, easygoing "Two of a Kind," which doesn't appear on any other release; it's since been claimed that this was actually a composition by Pink Floyd organist Rick Wright. The rest of the songs don't differ much from the officially released versions; they're somewhat sparer and looser. A decent if not absolutely essential relic for the Barrett/Floyd fan, with excellent sound.

- 2007: Duncan Blewett dies
Quote:
Remembering Duncan Blewett
ON February 24, psychedelic research pioneer Duncan Blewett passed away at Nanaimo Hospital, British Columbia, after two years of loving post-stroke care at his home on Gabriola Island. Dr. Blewett was an athlete, husband, father, PHD from University of London (UK), WWII veteran, founding chairman of University of Saskatchewan's department of Psychology, and one of the earliest western scientists to study the effects and therapeutic applications of psychedelics. Blewett published numerous books, such as Handbook for the Use of Lysergic Acid Diethylamide-25: Individual and Group Procedures and The Frontiers of Being. Handbook for the Use of LSD-25... is available in electronic format in the Free Books section of the MAPS website: maps.org/freebooks.
Blewett and a team of forwardthinking research psychologists were recruited to work at the U. of Saskatchewan's (later known as the U. of Regina's) Weyburn Hospital by Dr. Humphrey Osmond in the early 1950s, where they conducted a wide variety of patient studies and observations. Osmond, who passed away in 2004, is known for introducing Aldous Huxley to psychedelics (as described in The Doors of Perception) and for coining the term 'psychedelic,' in addition to his myriad research.
According to the Gabriola Sounder, Duncan 'lived his life fabulously in the moment to the very end: the power of his joy will resonate on for many lifetimes The afterlife just got a little lighter.' Following Duncan's death, longtime friend and associate, University of West Georgia Professor of Psychology Larry Schor wrote: 'Duncan was a trickster, a magician, an alchemist. In his company and under his spell, you could almost witness reality and imagination dancing together on the head of a pin. With Duncan by your side, you were always capable of more. More love. More compassion. More courage. One of his favorite quotes was of the Chinese philosopher Mencius, who said, 'The ways are but two, love and want of love.' For Duncan, the only path was love.

I didn't recognize the name, but the face is familiar from some LSD documentary, can't remember which. Maybe Hofmann's Potion.

I'll add this, forgot I had it and it's still 2/24. It's a completely ridiculous anti-marijuana article from 2/24/1936. It's in the image below but the quality sucks so I transcribed it as well.
The author seems to think the extracts used in medical preparations are a totally different drug than street weed. And of course you have the typical 1930s "if you smoke you're probably a rapist/murderer" routine and other goodies.

Feb 24, 1936 - The Utica Observer Dispatch (NY)
Narcotic Week
The World Narcotic Association is this week observing its 10th annual publicity crusade and it find encouragement in the fact that governors, mayors, educators, and organizations have responded in larger numbers than ever before and that the work of the organization seems to be gaining strength in its war upon dope rings in this and other countries.
But it is a constant warfare, and one of highest importance because of the serious effect that the use of narcotics has upon humanity - a secret, wily foe, attacking people of all classes and ages, particularly seeking victims among the young, and never hesitating as to the means used.
Withing the last few years the narcotic rings have developed a very dangerous new field - the exploitation of marihuana cigarets. They are made of a plant - Indian hemp - the fiber of which is used to make rope, twine, cloth, and hats. Also, it provides a drying oil which is used as a substitute for linseed oil, and a resin in the flowering tops is used in pharmaceutical preparations. But the leaves provide one of the most dangerous narcotics known, and they are used in different ways, largely in pipe smoking, cigaret smoking, and by chewing. The most common method is to mix marihuana with tobacco and form the mixture into cigarets, and these are sold or peddled, surreptitiously of course, through the common channels so well known to narcotic addicts. In places they have been discovered in small shops which are frequented by school children.
The use of this drug is first to produce the "kick" or "thrill" to which people in all circles aspire. From then on it leads to theft, robbery, falsehood, rape and murder. Out of 37 murders in New Orleans, 17 were attributed to marihuana - and in cities and towns everywhere in the country the crime record has been increased by traffic in this narcotic. In the city of New York last year there were 300 convictions for violations of the marihuana law, and the number would doubtless have been greatly increased were it not for the difficulty of detection.

today in psychedelic history, some guy blew his mind, reached the stars, opted out of brainwashed mind programmed lemming society, and learned how to think for himself in a world of freedom.
today in psychedelic history someone somewhere must have dosed, and realized the brilliance of the universe, and understood the point of doing things that give you a purpose, and enjoyed their life.
god bless you, whoever you are, known or unknown. amen.
