marriage question
    #14016642 - 02/23/11 09:38 PM (13 years, 10 days ago)

so say you wanna get married for financial stability

work offers me more money & offers to pay for my house if i'm married

would you do it?

this girl I know is pretty awesome, and she cooks, i haven't known her long but I'm kind of considering asking her if she'd do it (for the $)

Sounds illegal. Unless you're in the military?

They're discriminating against single people. You ought to demand the same pay for the same work.

Well it sounds like a good plan. Getting married to someone you barely know is risky though. Once you're legally together they can do a lot of shit to mess up your finances.

Would and did, the military does something like this.
We were together long-term, but formalized with a ceremony and papers for the money.

I wouldn't marry someone for money today if I knew that it meant a very realistic possibility of losing much more money in the future.

And from the viewpoint of your perhaps-soon-to-be-wife, I'd probably feel bad if the only reason my man would marry me was because of the money. But your gf might not see it that way, just theorizing here.

I agree with this.

There you have your answer. Don't do it because of the money. Don't do it at all. Turning it around, if you'd marry her now, that would mean that you're setting aside one of the apparently more important principles you live by for a bit of cash. Personally, I'd feel bad about that.

Agreed. Have one joint account that you both pay into from your personal accounts.

Since you brought up the financial aspect, just remember that she takes half.

IMO Prenups are not as bulletproof as people think.  Most law is practiced and based on past precedent.  Historically, men were the breadwinners, so the woman taking half was for her own security.

Even with a prenup, you two are moving forward together as a couple, so it's likely that she takes half.

The fire has many things to teach.
But so does the human experience.. which is like fire, sometimes you just need to stoke the coals and sometimes you just need to add a log or reposition the log matrix. But a well built fire will be much more self-sustaining than a poorly built one, and they all need love to grow. And don't fuck around or your might burn yourself. Must always respect the fire. - Shroomism
