What kind of pest is this?
    #14018021 - 02/24/11 02:23 AM (13 years, 9 days ago)

They've infested my Argyreia nervosa

They leave a sticky residue on the leaves. I took a photograph displaying the residue

They haven't seemed to truly harm the plant, though I think the residue could inhibit respiration. It's also annoying having a sticky plant that shouldn't be.

white fly. A mild soap(natural) spray can drown some of them but to me they are very hard to take care of.

These probably were brought in side from the plants I was over-wintering.
How readily do they spread disease?

Are they a likely culprit to what contaminated my garden last year? Used all fresh soil but all the tomatoes stalled and the pole beans were contaminated as well.

I absolutely love that picture of the praying mantis on the Trichocereus by the way Karode.

They might be a bitch to get rid of. Use an insecticidal soap and hose the F'ers down do it outside so if they do fly off the plant they will stay outside. Also if there flying around in the house a Vacuum cleaner is an excellent flying insect remover.

Spray with soapy water. Their crap starts to turn black with mold. They are a bitch. Spray with soapy water under the leaves and over the flies and then before it dries out completely spray the with clean water to rinse.

White flies are a huge pain in the ass indoors.  If you can keep a weak fan blowing on your plants, it will greatly reduce them.  They hate airflow, which is why they're not a common pest outside.
