texting vs calling a girl

say you have a scenario like such:
i went out with a girl some odd 5 1/2 years ago for about 2-3 weeks, and have bumped into her and have texted her in and out in the most recent year. then really got into texting/facebook chat in the recent days. we have only been texting, and i am a texter rather than a caller by any means with anyone. and you have a girl that is inviting and paying for your visit at her apartment in a different country. i think its a win-win situation, i will call her when i arrive at the airport
Is this plausible? should i wait until i arrive , i mean i have a week until i go there.
any ideas? i really need your help on this more than anything, i haven't had a relationship since her lol

I hate people nowadays NEVER TALKING ON THE PHONE!! Whats wrong with having conversations with people? Texts are short, and to the point, but they are so impersonal! Talk. Use your voice...it will make you more comfortable when you see her.

call her. i dunno why you wouldn't. if she's willing to do all that, shouldn't you be willing to pick up a phone? if you won't call her, by all means, I will.

Similar situation. FUCKING CALL HER! Then leave a message when she gets freaked out by getting called by a number she doesn't recognize, and be smooth with it. Then call on regular but not often intervals, throwing in a savvy text or two if response takes a few calls.
It's real communication. That's a win unless you are socially inept, in which case all the more reason to jump the fuck in and remedy that situation.

i can relate in a way, texting is easier. you dont have to hear the response in someones voice in a text but, it kind of helps when you want to get genuine things across. you cant seem kind in a text. but yea man, call her up. i think the fact that shes willing to make that jump, im sure she wouldnt mind the call at all.

sorry dude, I can't stand talking on the phone and avoid it whenever possible, long conversations at least. for me a phone is a way to get in touch with somebody so I can either meet them and talk face to face or get in touch through some other medium such as instant messengers, or just texting. something about having a conversation complete with awkward silences without any sort of visual cues is very uncomfortable for me.

I have a very hard time talking on a phone while tripping.
It's like, "I'm talking to a machine that sounds like you that's merely carrying your voice "

Most people are becoming this way because of texting/instant messaging/facebook/etc. Technology is SO IMPERSONAL. The only reason I would ever text someone instead of calling them is if I am somewhere where I can't make a phone call, or if it doesn't warrant an entire call. What is wrong with talking to people on the phone?
Also, awkward silences are only awkward because you interpret them as awkward. Silence during conversation is natural...it's not like the conversation can flow consistently ALWAYS. Silence is just a time to gather your thoughts to continue the conversation.
I like hearing people's voices. You can tell if they are being sincere, or if they are happy or sad...at least I think this rule applies for girlfriends or girls you are dating/interested in. I rarely just call my friends to have conversation, usually that's done face to face.

Its not that I have something against talking on the phone out of principle, i've just been this way as long as I can remember, before I had ever sent a single text or instant message. keep in mind I said I prefer to talk face to face, if I can't meet someone in person then something like skype is perfect. I only prefer texting and instant messaging to talking on the telephone by default. Also, I don't mind talking on the phone for a short while, its when somebody calls for the purpose of having a long conversation that I get uncomfortable.
