I understand, I would most likely be enraged if I had such.
I don't know if that's instinct that drives people to do that
Or they can't control their lust or whatever..

But IMO,
If they don't abide by the law then they should not be protected by it.

Morality could be said to be a means to an end, and the generally accepted end is happiness. To me, happiness is simply the natural state of a person who is not troubled. And in the end, it's not a matter of whether the right or wrong things were done, but whether they result in uncluttered peaceful state of mind/s.

In the example of a life for a life, the avenger would be doing as they desired, but such an act would not bring back the deceased, which is probably the main point of contention. However, in the pretense of rage and selfish retribution lies an instinct to remove destructive members of society from the world and from the gene pool. How effective this type of justice is from a social viewpoint, and from an individuals experience is debatable, but I think being instinctive is enough to back away from the dualistic concept of ultimate right and wrong, and of judgment of the kind which perpetuates the hurtful act. As a judge, I would like to lean towards leniency for the second murder, however with the suspect in the first murder dead, it could be difficult to justify doing so. Beyond any personal repercussions, there are risks associated with taking the law into ones own hands. Morals don't have a guiding principal of right and wrong, but of cause and effect, and the proof is in the pudding.

As for the original question, on a personal level evil manifests as feelings of shame, guilt, greed, anger, and self pride, which importantly, when acted upon may result in less happiness. If the acting results in happiness, then no evil was done, but perhaps still experienced. IOW, evil isn't 'bad', it's instinctive, though whether said instincts and actions are conducive to happiness is ultimately more important than whether they are justifiable.
