Are My Mushrooms Too Small or Too Dry?
    #14015950 - 02/23/11 07:43 PM (12 years, 11 months ago)

I was just wondering if my mushrooms are too small or too dry or something? I look at the other pics on the forum and see way bigger more juicier pins and i was wondering if these are normal?

I tried to calibrate the hygrometer by putting it in a hot steamy shower room and it only went up to 86%...in the FC it goes up to 89-90% so im guessing its 95-100% I need to get a good hygrometer

Other than that i just mist/fan as usual sometimes misting too much but it dries. It just seems like they should be bigger or juicier pins?

Relax. Those are far from reaching maturity, you're seeing results so just keep doing what you're doing, if something doesn't look quite right in the end then you know what you did/didn't do and you can go from there, with a little help from us here of course.

Do you have a shotgun terrarium? If so, are there too many holes allowing for too much airflow? :um:

I drilled holes about 1" apart in all six sides with a 3/8" drill bit but i didnt go all the way with the drill bit so they are smaller than 3/8"

I rolled in dry verm and i think my verm was too coarse or something because it didnt stick so well.

So you used a bigger drill bit than you were supposed to, then you make the holes CLOSER together than you were supposed to?

Personally, I think your doing just fine. Im workin on my first grow as well and i had an invitro pin in one of my jars too, and i birthed it before you birthed yours and your pins are lookin bigger than mine lol.
I even made my SGFC perfect to the T from RR's video. whatever your doin keep it up, and im sure you will be fine.
you even have little pins on your other cakes too right? i didnt get any on my other ones until today and there was a tiny little pin on only one of the other cakes.
its just a big waiting game, just make sure they arent sitting in pools of water and they get PLENTY of FAE and light you will be fine.

lol, thats my first successful grow as well. I've been trying to fruit bad myc from a shitty vendor that doesn't produce fruits the last 4 months. I've been doing plenty of reading and jars/monos etc, but this is the first time i've been able to see results. If you get something on your first try, be very happy! otherwise you could have been me and spent an extra $200 waisting your time lol!

yeah, you can see the cakes that aren't fully in the pic don't have pins... those are getting tossed after this first flush and will be replaced by pink oyster WBS cakes

Those are cambodians, the cake in the top right I think is technically on it's second flush as I pulled 2 mushies off it 3 weeks ago weighed at 18.3 grams fresh

I was trying to fruit in 55-58 degree temps. It worked, but took wayyyyy to long! so not i'm sitting at a good 69-72 and thats what I got going :bigjoint: I have a post in my sig about my GH tek, check it out as that will have regular pics of some B+ and cambodians in the next couple weeks

Are you tossing them because there bad from another vendor or because there taking longer?

If they havn't pinned yet from the same strain I would wait it out as some cakes can very well take longer then others to start pinning.  sorry if I missed something.

To the OP...those pins look pretty damn meaty.  When its a lot thicker at the bottom of the stem like that you know there most likely going to be some nice ones!  Now if the stems on your pins wern't much bigger then the caps I might be a little more concerned about it but I've even seen pins like that grow into decent mushrooms.
