PCing Bags
    #14015384 - 02/23/11 06:07 PM (12 years, 11 months ago)

Hello,

It's been a while since I've been here! Nice to be back.

Anyway, my friend wants to PC some WBS spawn bags with filter patches. He's thinkin' 2 hours will do. He was just wondering if there are any tips or words of caution. (Should the filter patch be oriented some way? Are there any common noobie mistakes? etc.. etc..)

Thanks in advance!

i do 1.5hrs @ 20psi
i like to roll the bags so the filter patch is on the side of the bag then when i load i like the patch to face inward (as apposed to towards the side of the pc)sometimes for me if the patch is touching the wall it starts to melt a bit.

no real noob mistakes its pretty much idiot proof just make sure you put something over the bags to keep the from puffing up and blocking off valves.

oh BTW make sure the pressure goes down on its own. if you release the pressure too fast you WILL blow the bags

good luck:wink:

This idiot managed to screw up PCing bags.

I didn't isolate a bag well from the sides of the PC, and it touched the inside metal wall when it was cooking. I got a nasty plastic melt which stuck hard to my PC wall. Took an hour to scrub the plastic away, and I had to run the PC with just water for several cycles to get rid of the last trace of plastic vapor.

I had successfully PCed multiple bags before, but this time I used aluminum foil balls as isolators instead of metal jar lids. Maybe it was just a coincidence, but I'm going back to jar lids only!

I like to go 2 hours, or more.  I do huge bags though.

Protect the top of the bag from blocking the vent.

You can pre-seal the 0.5 micron bags.

Good luck,

JD

Electrical tape works to seal bags - run a line down the top, fold it over, and wrap it around like 10 more times.

Probably a better seal than am impulse sealer - just takes a lot longer.

I admit that I add tape after the fact.

I seal my bags very near the top of the bag, and after sealing I will
lay a piece of duct tape over the top and fold it over the seal.

These were part of my original batch from mushbox. Like I said, I had PCed several of these bags before without any problem. So I assumed I had screwed up.

I have now moved on to the 100 Fungi Perfecti bags I ordered. I'm still being very careful placing the bags. I've learned that being overly careful in mushroom cultivation cannot hurt!

i use masking tape and it works very well

it helps keep my bags folded while i load the PC

and also after I do a G2G i tape up the top of the bags
