lol. we have a water softener at my house.. it strips the water of minerals such as calcium and magnesium, adds sodium, and is reportedly more effective at leaching heavy metals (lead, mercury, etc.) from pipes...
i try not to be too paranoid about it but still,
feels sketchy mane

Where do you live? That might tell you how the 'soft water' quality is over where ever the heck you are.

More effective at not leaching lead?
And Yes, loosing calcium and magnesium from your water will poorly affect health might want to supplement or drink the hard water (if you are not making it up in diet). Better yet, find a mountain spring near you to drink from if possible (The good ones usually will have a following of people, ask around).

you can request a free copy of your region's water analysis report via email.
i did, and i found out that there's still trace amounts of pesticides in my public H20 from the 1970s... as well as a bunch of other stuff.

Hardness is just the measure of dissolved calcium and magnesium in the water.
There still isn't a consensus on which is better for you, but no soft water is certainly not bad for you.
If you are worried about it, take calcium/magnesium supplements.

Magnesium deficiency is pretty big in our society, so if you're loosing it in water, you might want to supplement.

so the biggest thing i have to worry about you think might be the lost calcium and magnesium? i do take about 500mg of magnesium oxide at bedtime usually.. and i believe i do get at least the 100% RDA of calcium from my diet.
it's fucking annoying because my parents are so ignorant to everything going on around them, and they insist on having soft water no matter what health concerns it may present. i printed off information about the issue and kindly presented it to them but to no avail.. oh well, i'll be able to move out soon and i try my best to keep a positive attitude about it.. it just bothers me knowing i have nothing to drink but water that is not ideal.. everyone even slightly knowledgeable in the area of healthy living has agreed with me that soft water is not meant for drinking! and my parents' conscious choice to not look at anything logically can really bother me sometimes.. oh well, it's a test i guess
thanks for the thoughts everyone
