Panellus stipticus fruiting - community project proposal.

Panellus stipticus is a fun species. Lots of us have played with it in LC form on various substrates. But very few people have ever fruited it. Let's change that. Let's find ways to easily fruit this species indoors.
Fame and glory await those who participate in this project, it's bound to be epic.

I'm just saying we need a way to get prints. The LC from SporeWorks is an isolate, we all assume. It does get traded, but ethically prints would be better. (Ethically ok to give somebody the rest of your original syringe, IMHO.) Prints also are good for backing up your grow.
Of course growing from spores would require re-isolating a substrain that grow brightly, a whole other project.

does bio-luminescent algae in the atlantic off the coast of melbourne, florida have anything to do with this incidentally?

Grains. I want a GLC. Then more grains. Then spawn to sawdust+woodchips+verm (spawnbag), then fruit. How does this plan sound?

i have been thinking about micro-environment/mini-climate scenarios with organic/inorganic life for awhile now, in terrarium form
i am confused, doc-t
are you talking pure cultivation for the cultivators enjoyment or something marketable, like to wealthy patrons with an appreciation but no knowledge or time, hand holding for that special time when something really fucking cool could be observed?
swimming in melbourne, fl, swashing my hand through the water and seeing the most amazing dim lime green bio-luminescence...algae+fungi=?

PF jars are great for gifts. But I'm talking about us all trading prints.
Leopardman- why GLC? Why not LC->LC expansion? Or are you stating from an agar wedge?

Buy a syringe or trade for a wedge, grow it out, learn about the cultivation requirements and then have a brainstorm.

I'm going to try some ideas with aspen pet bedding chips, because I have some here. I thought maybe mixed half and half with brf/verm, then do like regular cakes.

They're not that hard to fruit. Treat them like oysters. What's hard is trying to get decent pictures without a film camera. RR

Yeah. I may have to get an old 35mm somewhere. And/or find a digital with exposure control, like for a telescope.
RR you say they aren't that hard to fruit, but none of us ever have done it. Any ideas why? Are we just all having brain cramps? Too distracted by the glow?

We've had several people fruit it, including me. Here's one of the threads, but search will turn up a few more. The first two pictures are mine. The other two are in my gallery, but taken by someone else. I couldn't capture the glow with any of my digital cameras, even when leaving the shutter open for half an hour. RR

I'm not RR, but that sounds good. Depending on your goals, you could even probably leave out the wood chips and just use sawdust. I've not fruited them yet, but have some grain spawn and cakes I've colonized pretty easily.
Also, for the pics, you will need a good DSLR to get decent pics. I have a Nikon D3000 and with a 30 second shutter speed, ISO cranked up, and the smallest aperture available on my lens, I can BARELY pick up the glow. Plus, with the ISO that high, there are a lot of artifacts as well.
I'm just guessing, but if someone had a slightly better camera, say maybe a D90, the ISO wouldn't put so much grain in it, and the shutter speed could be adjusted even further out. Just my 2 cents
