fruiting half pint rye berry cakes
    #14013032 - 02/23/11 11:32 AM (12 years, 11 months ago)

I was wondering if it would make any sense at all to, when making some trays, do a g2g to a half dozen 1/2 pint jars full of pc'd rye berries and then fruit them like pf cakes? The goal being to extend the spawn but keep colonization & fruiting time to about a month, so I don't think spawning to bulk after g2g would be practical. Anyhow any thoughts or ideas would be helpful, thanks.

Spawning after g2g makes perfect sense.

I've fruited WBS like that, just pop it out of the jar like a cake.
Works ok, but nothing exciting. Dunk and roll if you do it.

Would putting micropore tape over the 4 innoc holes on normal pf jars allow for enough gas exchange, or would it be better to make some lids with one bigger hole like on a grain jar?

I don't recommend micropore tape on grain jars. A five dollar bag of polyfil will last you a year or more.
