What's cheaper: selling your poorly-demanded SUV for a loss, and then buying a gas-friendly car, which'll cost you $5-10,000 (arbitrary numbers), or just filling up your SUV till it dies with more, and more expensive, gasoline
you decide

Well, on the face of it, that's what a lot of folks are doing. But I'm seeing a lot of shiny, new behemoths on the road (like made within the past 2 years or so). Be that as it may, if people had bought smaller cars to begin with, maybe oil prices wouldn't be *quite* so high.

Maybe. But I don't think the total effect of the extra gallons those SUVs soak up here in America would slow the booming demand for oil from rising giants such as china/india.

Oh yes, there are many forces driving this, not to mention the current unrest in the Middle East. But we American can be incredibly short-sighted and very wasteful, you have to admit. I guess we're spoiled, and we need to wake up and smell the coffee.

Get to your senses. And give me your pick-up trucks.
Our government also doesn't invest in effective public transportation, so we have no other option in many cases.

Yeah, you poor guys, you need cheap gas and huge cars because you don't have what? air conditioned buses? State sponsored cheap air-lines? Seats on top of trains? I'm not buying it, give me an example.

Yeah, I'll bet that thing would get 50+ MPG or better. Good for you! Me, I'm just driving a whole lot less these days. I live pretty close in town, so alot of things are within walking distance. My pudgy ass needs the exercise anyway.

Yeah the gas prices suck, but whatcha gonna do? It's inevitable really. I can't wait to get out of this f150, but my grandpa loaned it to me indefinitely and it's my only vehicle. I get so many dirty looks filling up here in hippie town though. I think if most people could afford it, they'd buy something more gas efficient. Everyone's just getting by with what they can though. The market for used SUVs and trucks is pretty terrible so selling isn't a great option either. Just gotta invest smart when you do have the funds for a new vehicle...
