quick helping hand with spawn bag work
    #14012804 - 02/23/11 10:25 AM (12 years, 11 months ago)

Im hoping for a quick helping hand as I am in the middle of myc work

I have some rye that I want to load into spawn bags with filter patches and pressure cook
I will follow RR's guidelines without the tyvek as I have none
tomorrow morning when the bags are room temp;
can I open the pc in a glovebox like setup and inoculate the bags with lc and just put micropore tape at inoculation point right after I draw out the needle... with good chances of ultimate success?

i'd take the bags out of the pressure cooker without it being in the glove box. You should be fine but i suggest next time using tyvek, you can go to your local post office and get them for free :thumbup:

How the hell do you want to open your PC on your glovebox? You should have a big ass GB to do that

I just make the glovebox bigger
it's really not a glovebox homie
it's a huge bag and it's not very good for sterile work but if I don't use it who will??

Just spray the room well with a mist of bleach and water at 1:10 before working.  This will capture and drag most of the contaminant spores to the floor.  Wear a surgical mask and gloves.

You'll still need to seal the bags after inoculation, and then pull the edges to inflate the top part with filtered air from the filter patch.  I seal the bags shut with electrical twist ties, but some people use wire as shown in my DVD, or impulse sealers.

would it do any damage to close bags with wire before pc'ing?
why after inoculation and not as soon as we open the pc?
