Please confirm you are joking.
-------------------- There are more people imprisoned for the commission of drug offenses in the United States - close to 500,000 - than are incarcerated in England, France, Germany, and Japan for all crimes combined. Examined in another way, the United States has 100,000 more people incarcerated for nonviolent drug offenses than all the countries of the European Union combined, despite the fact that the European Union has 100 million more citizens.

Zappa and Cobain were all about the Shaggs.
They were pretty much forced by their dad to start a band (they were all sisters) even though they had no idea what they were doing.

I respect Zappa. But just because he liked this band doesn't mean it's quality music.

Haha, awesome! I don't think I've seen another person on The Shroomery who likes The Shaggs. I have the Philosophy Of The World album. It's a classic. The vinyl version is worth money now. There's one on ebay right now for $175. They have actually done reunion shows as recent as 5 or 10 years ago. The drummer is dead, so they had to get a new one. I remember reading about how tough it was for him to get that drumbeat down. But it's a weird story. These girls' father basically put a gun to their head and made them make music because he wanted them to be rich and famous.

Well, because his wife or someone saw a psychic who said their kids would be in a band along with some other stuff and the band part was the only one yet to come true. Or some shit like that. Pretty strange story either way.

Yeah, I just checked out the wiki page on it. You're right.
Quote:
The conceptual beginning of The Shaggs came from Austin Wiggin, Jr.'s mother. During Austin's youth she had predicted during a palmreading that he would marry a strawberry blonde woman, that he would have two sons after she had died, and that his daughters would form a popular music group. The first two predictions came true, so Austin set about making the third come true.[3] Austin withdrew his daughters from school, bought them instruments, and arranged for them to receive music and vocal lessons. The Wiggin sisters themselves never planned to become a music group, but as Dot later said, "[Austin] was something of a disciplinarian. He was stubborn and he could be temperamental. He directed. We obeyed. Or did our best."
