medical advice from the pub

So I come here for all my medical advice. I've had a persistent sore throat for at least 5 days accompanied with a fever at least part of the time (no thermometer). No other cold symptoms. Swollen glands on my neck.
Should I go to the doc and be checked out for strepp throat? Starting to think it's not a regular cold virus. Maybe bacterial needing antibiotics?
In your valued medical opinion, what do you think?

You should get a friend to look down your throat, you will be able to see if you have strep. You will see a bunch of white shit in the back of your throat. If you do have strep get on antibiotics so you don't get scarlet fever (it actually does happen). Try gargling salt water to ease the pain and eating a diet full of grains and fruits to keep your system running healthy. And try not to drink or smoke for a couple days too..

I actually had scarlet fever once as a kid. It was the sux. One of the sickest times I've had.

Eat lots of vitamin C (1000mg daily). Sit it out for a couple more days. If it doesn't get any better, than get checked up.
Do you have a foul mouth odor? That could point towards something bacterial.

coughing up any sputum(lung cookies)? what color? green/yellow, white?
If so, that can help tell you if it's viral or bacterial

I kind of agree that you should check to make sure it isn't strep by having a friend look down there.
If its not strep its probably some weird bug. I had similar symptoms a year and a half ago and beat it after about 8-10 days (can't remember exactly). Not sure what it was, I drank a bunch of orange juice every day.
Anyhow, it could be swine flu. Nothing you can't beat with time and rest and vC

Have someone look at pics online of what strep looks like and take a look down your throat with a flashlight. If you have strep then you need amoxicillin or some other antibiotic. If it's just red and sore give it a few days before you head to the doc. Make sure to do all the healthy normal stuff like drink water, eat healthy, don't smoke it'll only make it worse, vitamin c is a good idea, and take some sort of cold medicine whichever one's your preference.

Doctors are for suckers.
The only time I go to a doctor is if I'm in so much pain I can't stand it. The body's ability to heal itself is miraculous.

I have to propose a related question: Why wouldn't you go to a doctor?

Yeah fuck doctors, get a shaman.
I'd say wait it out a few more days, take something for your sore throat, there should be some pills with local antibiotics/antiseptics in them (the kind you suck on) and if those don't do you any good, then get a shaman.

Not to be taken seriously by any means!

because I live in the US, where the medical industry likes to profit off sick people.
I'm going to the walk in clinic this morning though. I've already decided. It's like $100, but I can't miss a bunch of work and stuff, that would cost way more.

Or look into health insurance.
