Making LC from Agar

Hey everyone! So this is my first post, and I'm about to put my first PF Tek cakes into my fruiting chamber. Yay me.
I want to keep working with this strain so I don't have to buy more spore syringes. My first thought is to do Agar but based on my resources the easiest way to move on to larger substrates would be spawn bags - which I understand require LC to inoculate if you don't have a flowhood. My question is how do you transfer Agar into a LC solution without contamination. I've read a few posts that sugest its possible, but nothing on the specific procedure. Thanks in advance!

Iv read in several places that its advised against to use agar to make lc, agar is a gelatin like substance and can be kinda hard to shake/stir. Perhaps get some WBS, and use the 2nd or 3rd transfer of agar to incoulate the wbs? just an idea if your trying to avoid MS Syringes.

No, it's best to inoculate LC with a known culture from agar.
Op, if you don't have a flowhood, cut and transfer known, clean cultures inside of a still-air box by dropping a wedge of agar into your freshly sterilized liquid medium or, transfer agar to grain master jars and expand the mycelium from there through a process called grain to grain transfers.
For long term storage of myclial culture look into "master culture slants".

Thanks Ham, I thought it would be something as simple as that - but I haven't read anywhere that describes the process quite as concisely as you just did. Time to work on my glove-box!

My Mistake, thought you were talking about actualy using agar as a LC, in which i was referring to this post http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/12589842#12589842 to base my post off of.
agar to grain to grain, from what iv read is very effective.

Agar wedge into LC works great. But a better way to do bags is with grain to grain. Use your agar to make grain master jars, then inoculate your bags from that.
Much, much more likely to work well and not waste a bunch of time and materials.
-------------------- You make it all possible. Doesn't it feel good?
