Sterilizing bags
    #1401008 - 03/22/03 05:11 PM (15 years, 2 months ago)

When spawn bags are pressure cooked after being sealed, they overexpand and get all kinds of stretch marks on them even when all the air is squeezed out of the bag before sterilization. When the bags are pressure cooked without being sealed the substrate ends up getting soaked. How are these things supposed to be sterilized??? They have a filter patch, but I don't see how that does anything. Squeezing a sealed bag does not force air out of the filter patch.

the filter patch is designed to keep contaminants out....in order to do this there will be a restriction on air flow....live with the expanding bag or try using jars

So you think the stretch marks are OK? Should the white covering of the filter patch be removed or is that the filter patch?

Also, the bag expands to fill the ENTIRE interior of the pressure cooker.
