A good point but if you think about how fast the technology has grown in the last 10 years and if it continues to exponentially grow as fast as it did in the NEXT 10 years we will find ways to overcome these problems. Ya our food sucks right now and yea there are a shit load of toxins in our environment but if we learned to look at the world as a model and mathematically find ways to solve problems we may be able to over come these obstacles.

correct, but at the same time consider that as technology has grown in the last 10 years, so has the technology of all the mentioned byproducts, (MSG and all that)... so i guess the question is, will we grow out of the synthetic food products phase, or die trying?

I am not sure what you are trying to say. Yes foods contains toxins and shit but there are plenty of people who just don't eat processed foods. Also even if we did eat shit food all the time and never found a way to deal with it I think evolution would do it's work just fine and even if a majoraty of people died there would still be those fuckers who eat mcdonalds 3 meals a day and live to be 80. I don't think byproducts will be what takes us down. If anything it would be world war 3, desieses or a space rock. Just my $00.02

Has anyone ever though about the idea that maybe aliens are humans who have advanced far enough to develop technology to become immortal and come back in time?

So I know that sounds fucking stupid but it seems more plausible to me than beings from some other star system.

If you think about it we are becoming closer and closer to surpassing our own biological potential. We have already extended the life span of the human race by double. It seems like it is simply a matter of time before we are able to grow organs and then it won't be long after that that we will be able to find out how to stop the decay in human bodies. Paired with that, the technological advances in information processing will only continue to grow. With the new wave of nano technology we soon will be able to truly harness the power of computing and solve virtually any problem.

Now I've heard many people who have encountered what they believe to be alien life forms describe something that was part mechanical and part flesh. These beings also did not seem to have any reproductive organs according to the victims.

If you think about how a super intelligent being would design a body for itself it seems very likely that this is what would result. At some point we may find a way to become virtually immortal and some day travel back in time to inspect ourselves in our beginnings.

Creepy thought for sure and I know I would never want to live here forever but it's a thought that has been lurking in my mind for some time now.

I am not saying this is what I believe but I think it is a pretty interesting idea. :tinfoil:

in all honesty i think we are killing ourselves faster than we are extending our own lives... look at all of the byproducts in food nowadays... all of the drugs we use on a daily basis...

i see us going extinct before we extend life to immortality

Technology is not gonna solve our retardation when it comes to our differences our propensity for horrific acts of violence based on these differences. The answer is not bigger and better scientific advancements its fundamental changes in the way we veiw eachother and our relation to the world.

By the way backwards time travel is impossible for many reasons, one being the negative energy feedback loops it creates and the paradoxs it would allow.

Maybe technology is not going to save us... but I gotta say you sound super closed minded and kinda ignorant if you think we have really figured out all there is to know about the universe and the possiblities of time travel already... we can only take educated guesses.

You dont even understand what closemindedness is, Take a look at the mathematical and physical facts surrounding the idea of backwards time travel, its a impossibility. I think you need to spend less time living in some fantastical technological fantasy and a little more time in reality.

Actually, it's not... look into the concept of a Tipler cylinder.  Theoretically if you constructed one (a difficult task by any means) you'd be able to travel backwards in time from any point in the future, but only as far as back as the creation of the cylinder.  You could also build a wormhole and accelerate one end for a sufficiently long period of time: due to relativity the end that was accelerated would be in the future compared to the one that remained stationary, and to travel backwards in time you'd simply have to enter that end of the wormhole.  :nerd:

Oh, and to answer OP's question: yeah, I've thought about this possibility.  Seems more likely that these aliens would actually BE aliens, though: imagine how many other intelligent civilizations could have existed prior to us in the Universe and then add in the likely principle that technology advances at an exponential rate: they would have achieved the Singularity long before we even started coming down from the trees.

I think going back in time would be hard because you would not go back to the same planet as before, because whats done is already set in motion, its not like "saved" or anything. If we did go back it would be a whole different planet. Anyone see that movie time machine its a book too but that dude couldnt go back in time pissed him off.
Wait a sec i think he did but there was a whole conspiracy about how he couldnt help his wife from dying.

Maybe that's true. I am not saying I believe this. I am not even trying to defend it. But to say that it is impossible to travel back in time at this point in history is pretty ridiculous. I am well aware of this Theory. But I hate to break it to you... theory's can be revised. I have read "The Elegant Universe" by Brian Greene where he highlights this, and the math behind this theory is based on a number of assumptions about our universe. No one has any idea what kind of out of the box theory will be thought of in the future.

I don't live in a fantasy world. I DO enjoy pondering possiblities that some are incapable of comprehending.

Ya Ive heard this idea quite a bit...That humans eventually will evolve into the Stereotypical "Grey" Alien...

I don't know if that's accurate though...I would imagine our more pure extraterrestrial form in a HUMANOID fashion...EXCEPT imagine a human...Except without the DNA of a monkey...That is your extra terrestrial race as far as being related to humans...

You can also tie this in with evolutionary theory...just slowly separate genetics from the monkey....Less hair, straighter stature...larger brain, more elongated limbs...I wouldn't imagine the more pure human as a stereotypical Alien...But perhaps something more interesting

I used to think this too, still do. To me it makes sense, why not?

I really hate it when people think we know whats going on in the world/universe. With the exception of a few cultures, we've only been doing "smart" shit for what, like 400 years (give or take 300 :-)...beyond building crude homes and crude implements.
Do you think 400 years ago they thought they could build a ladder high enough to reach the sky...or even the moon? Not too many people were putting thought into any except surviving. Given, my years may be off. I dont do history too much, my eye's are fixed ahead. To think that we've reached anything is sort of small minded. DNA and all that is a great start, but the way I see it, before we're "gone", I think we'll know what happens after we die, and why we were here to begin with.
It seems so 'yeah right!', but so did everything else just xxx years ago.

yes, dan burisch.  several hours of video interview on project camelot reveal his story in dealing with two separate sets of time traveling future humans.  http://projectcamelot.org/dan_burisch.html
