Do you have any experience with Gymnocalycium? Mine just keep shrivelling up.

Ooh! Just took a second look at your Gymnocalycium and it looks very much like an unlabelled specimen I got a while ago. Now I have more of an idea what it might be. Fortunately that one's doing fine. The other ones have suffered from things such as repotting into limey compost (they hate it) and possibly too high winter temperatures. Do you overwinter below room temperature?
Bit of a n00b, sorry! I've found it difficult to get hold of any decent Gymnocalycium cultivation info. and sorry for thread hijack! Nothing's flowered yet, so nothing really to add...

You been going strong eh FH Looking good! I seen Leuchtenbergia all red like that pretty often - they don't seem to need as much sun as a lotta other cacti. Even seen ones way worse off at the desert botanical garden in Phoenix. Best of luck with all your seed collecting adventures

Thanks PoC.
those l. principis are in full sun. they seem to grow either way.
i looked up some on the net and they showed shots of wild ones.
mine, as natural as like to get them, don't look as bad as wild ones.
i haven't waterd those for over a year.

Nice Mammilaria theresae!
Cryptocarps for the win. Plus they are some of the hardiest globulars I've come across. Apparently in the natural habitat they are frequently covered by snow without ill effect.

Cryptocarpic cacti are cacti that retain their fruit/seeds inside their bodies. Most of them are in the Longiflorae series of Mammillaria. Unfortunately it means that getting seeds is pretty difficult--I've been hesitant to try to harvest them with sharp tweezers.
There might be some more informationhere.
