The Safety Instructions of Eating Sweet Potatoes
    #14006481 - 02/22/11 09:34 AM (13 years, 3 days ago)

As found:
The Safety Instructions of Eating Sweet Potatoes
"Many people like to eat sweet potatoes. Potatoes not only have good taste but also contain abundant nutrients. They contain abundant protein, starch, amino acid, dietary fibers, carotene, vitamin A, vitamin B, vitamin C, vitamin E, calcium, potassium, iron and other trace elements. What's more, the contents of heat, fat and cholesterol are rather low. Sweet potatoes play an important role in protecting the physical health for the human body. They can not only help people lose weight and prevent cancer, but also avoid the loss of calcium. The dietary fibers can stimulate the intestinal peristalsis and the secretion of digestive juice and decrease th risks of getting gastric and intestinal diseases for people.

In order to maintain the balanced supplementation of various nutrients, people should eat sweet potatoes together with vegetables and fruits. In addition, people should eat potatoes at noon, as the sunlight in the afternoon can accelerate the absorption of calcium inside the human body. Before people have supper, calcium contained in potatoes can be absorbed completely.

At the same time, people should remember that they should not eat potatoes together with persimmons. The sugar contained in potatoes can ferment in the stomach to accelerate the secretion of gastric juice. Then it can be integrated with the tannic acid contained in persimmons to form hard lumps. Sometimes, gastric bleeding and gastric ulcer can be caused. Once people eat potatoes and persimmons at the same time, they should observe closely whether they have any uncomfortable symptoms. If some uncomfortable symptoms are caused, people should go to hospital for check in time.

In addition, people should not eat potatoes excessively. The oxidase contained in potatoes can easily produce a large amount of carbon dioxide in the gastric and intestinal tracts inside the human body, and then some uncomfortable symptoms like abdominal distension can be caused. In addition, the high content of sugar contained in potatoes can stimulate the secretion of gastric acid. The acid juice can stimulate the stomach to force people to spit acid water. At the same time, the human body can not absorb the sugar completely. The extra sugar can ferment in the intestinal tract to cause abdominal distension. Therefore, it is not suitable for all the people to eat sweet potatoes. All the instructions of eating sweet potatoes should be followed carefully so as to prevent the possible harms effectively. People should not eat potatoes randomly at improper time."

I love the internet!

Sweet potatoes are really good with some brown sugar rubbed on them before they're about done. It'll caramelize and create a nice sweet crust that'll compliment the potato taste quite well!! Make a marshmallow sauce too and frickin' drench it in that and it'll be a real treat along with the [beneficial nutrients] of course.

I love the internet too.

I'll tell you why it amused me so much - I was looking online for information about diphenylmethyl quinuclidine  and this came up next to the link. For whatever reason, someone in China is typing and posting this stuff. I wasn't even sure where to post it - here, the pub or the cookery section. So I thought it would be good as my first post on health matters.

Cooking sweet potatoes is so easy - just stick them in a hot oven and then remember you put them there about 45 minutes later. They go with sweet and savoury, They're brilliant - but remember, don't mix them with persimmons!

Marshmallow sauce? I don't think we have that in the UK. Custard will have to do, but now we're getting off-topic for the forum [/hastily looks up health-giving properties of custard]

Wow! I just got an olfactory hallucination of custard. I'm not tripping. These things just happen to me sometimes. Fortunately my olfactory hallucinations are always pleasant.

I've no idea what diphenylmethyl quinuclidine is but I certainly can't find any potato links attached via Google!

If you have marshmallow's in the UK you can certainly make the sauce, haha, and it's worth trying.

I appreciated the link honestly, and now I'm in the mood for them. I mean, as long as they're not cold! Cold potatoes are soggy and bland!

It was attached by whatever website I went through to look at something about "derivatives of 2-diphenylmethyl-3-amino-azabicyclo[2.2.2]octane, novel non-peptide antagonists of substance P" or some such nonsense. Pharmacology, I'm afraid! But I wasn't going to post about sweet potatoes in the chem/pharm forum.

Sure we have marshmallows in the UK - does one merely dissolve them in hot milk for this sauce? Sounds a bit gacky to me, and while I claim not to like fluffy boiled pig derivatives I have to admit I did enjoy eating the marshmallow one of my girlfriend's students gave her the other day...:hehehe:
