Bill banning 'spice' signed into law by Governor Brewer February 22, 2011 - kvoa.com
TUCSON - The bill banning the sale of synthetic marijuana-like drugs in Arizona has been signed into law by Governor Jan Brewer.
Gov. Brewer signed HB 2167 Friday, banning the sale of "spice," "K2," and other synthetic products marketed as a legal alternative to marijuana in various smoke shops and other retailers across the state.
"I'm happy that the Legislature moved quickly and with bipartisan support to outlaw these dangerous substances," said Governor Brewer. "I'd especially like to thank Reps. Amanda Reeve and Matt Heinz, along with Sen. Linda Gray, for helping shepherd this important bill through the legislative process, and the Arizona Department of Public Safety and Maricopa County Attorney's Office for playing a key role in the development of this measure."
Gov. Brewer held a ceremonial signing today, where she and supporters of the law spoke out against the substance, which is a plant-like material sprayed with a combination of chemical substances. The Governor's office says that the chemicals can be up to 700 times the potency of the active ingredient in marijuana, and can cause seizures, stroke, anxiety, visual disturbances, racing heartbeat and elevated blood pressure.
"With Governor Brewer's signing of this legislation, users and sellers of this dangerous drug should consider themselves on notice that we will aggressively prosecute and hold them accountable for the threat they pose to the citizens of Maricopa County," said Bill Montgomery, Maricopa County Attorney.
Eleven other states have already enacted similar legislation banning the sale of "spice," and another 20 are considering taking such measures.

Purported side effects of Spice:
Quote:
can cause seizures, stroke, anxiety, visual disturbances, racing heartbeat and elevated blood pressure.
Documented severe side effects of viagra, taken from http://www.drugs.com/sfx/viagra-side-effects.html:
Quote:
Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); chest pain; fainting; fast or irregular heartbeat; memory loss; numbness of an arm or leg; one-sided weakness; painful or prolonged erection; ringing in the ears; seizure; severe or persistent dizziness; severe or persistent vision changes; sudden decrease or loss of hearing; sudden decrease or loss of vision in one or both eyes.
In the end, all politicians care about is getting a boner.

Someone needs to point out the absurdity of their logic when it comes to making things illegal because of their side effects. I think they just love making themselves look good by "protecting the children".

I just did a little googleing to find the actual bill. Supposedly somebody died from smoking a blend he bought at a head shop in Arizona.
