do rye clumps normally fully colonize after g2g?
    #14006064 - 02/22/11 06:36 AM (13 years, 11 days ago)

I have about 20 rye clumps in pint jars
do you think they will colonize if I do a g2g with 3 pints of good fully colonized rye?

I will just say that the rye sticks together to a degree that makes the grains almost inseparable.
Only if I shake the jars intensely do the kernels separate.
I think that's better than a pic honestly

Sticking together because they've got mycelium connecting them, or are they not colonized at all? Either way, I think you're fine.

if the clumps are not colonized you should think about washing them next time... anyway it'll colonize if it's not contaminated

if they are clumped together because they have mycelium growing then just smack the shiz out of the jars against the palm of your hand a bunch of times and the grain will eventually break up

if they are clumped together because you didnt wash off the dirt i dont have a clue what to do because ive never had that problem

Healthy colonized rye will break apart easily.
Hard myc, especially if it's smooth or shiny, indicates likely contamination with bacteria.
