Kaplan University Online

Has anyone ever taken online classes? I just talked to an advisor from the University. Apparently the University is not soley an online University. They have ground campuses too.
What gets me is that there are no GPA requirments for Master programs.
The lady I talked to informed me that if I get my masters online that it will not say that I had gotten it online. It will be as a normal masters degree.
Any input on this?

I believe that's one of those for-profit schools. I'd stay away from those if I were you. I've heard bad things about them. Many accredited universities (both private and public) offer online courses as well. You should look into those first.

If you want to do college online then your best bet would definitely be to find a real university that offers online classes. You won't get far with a degree from one of those places.. they just want your money unfortunately.

Pretty much so I've read. Be careful in dealing with those types of places.

I've had friends work marketing for Kaplan, and lets just say that they don't give two shits about the student.

These kinds of schools are highly suspicious.
The biggest problem I see though, is not having an inferior degree... but rather, the problem is getting an inferior education. Anybody can go to a library or go online to learn. The reason you should consider a real university is to learn and experience that which a library or online can never offer. And the university has tons of such stuff, depending on your major.
As my advisor once told me, "The importance of your degree is high for your first job, but then goes down exponentially". After you have been in a career for a decade or so, your CV is really gonna be about your skills, ability and work history. The degree will be incidental.
And that is why I think you should be considering what you actually want to get out of the University. If you just want to get an expensive piece of paper, then online University is probably fine. If you want the University experience of a liberal arts and sciences education, then I think you really need to go in person. If you want a marketable skill set, and are not concerned with a liberal education, then consider a trade school of some type. For example, you could do a trade school to learn how to work with MRI machines and be a lot more employable and marketable than somebody who got a bachelors degree in chemistry or physics.

Aviod it. What are you getting your degree in? Only the most basic employers will look at a Kaplan degree and think "yeah, this person is qualified"

I just went to that site and looked up Kaplan.
I think you are right. The problem is sit down schools are fucking expensive as hell. I got my bachelors at a sit down university which was wonderfull. I wish I had the money to go back!

I think of them as cheaper than Kaplan. My B.S. from a sit down school cost about 18k, not counting Pell Grants.

I have a bachelors degree. I was interested in a Masters. Unfortunatly I dont qualify for many masters program. Though I can qualify for graduate studies for a teaching certification. To enter I must pass my GRE and PRAXIS exam.

they arent an accredited university, ITT and DeVry are no more than high priced trade schools, I knew an instructor at devry, he was in his first year and almost every day he bitched about how 3rd year students didnt know anything, he gave me one of the tests he administered and I scored 93 and have no actual education in the computer field, these people were 3rd year and the highest score was in the 60s

It's pretty much just a racket to extract grant money from the Govt. They use their "students" as a means to do this.
The worst part about these scumbags, is the way they go about recruiting. Anyone thats tried to get a job via the internet has probably filled out what they thought was a job application only to get a phone call minutes later by some pushy cunt trying to convince them to come to their bullshit school.
Fuck these assholes.

Fuck that noise. Degrees take serious work, there is no way to cut corners and bullshit your way through to one. I don't know what kind of degrees they hand out, but I would either commit to getting a real education at a real university, or just stay away.
