I Despise Banks!
    #14006303 - 02/22/11 08:33 AM (12 years, 11 months ago)

They are part of the reason why the economy is so fucked.

I just read that free checking accounts will be a thing of the past.  They are going to start annual or monthly fees.

Ever since BoA charged me 7 overdraft fees that started with a supposed atm withdrawal(that's the truth!), I lost faith in the banks.  I told the bank manager to have fun getting the money through collections, because I'm not paying it.

How do you overdraft on an ATM withdrawal anyways!?!?  :kingcrankey:

Overdraft fees:  seriously?  $35 if you make a purchase a penny over..  overdraft protection my ass!

The banks don't want low income accounts.  And one way to try to get rid of them is by imposing a fee for accounts that have a balance of less than $1,500.  That's right, make money off the lower class, that will help your deficit..

Any money I receive stays with me now.  I don't need a bank, I'll use a safe and I will protect my money.

loans..try getting a loan from the bank now a days.  It's not going to happen.

Banks are a drain on the economy.  Well, unless you're filthy rich!

Middle class, what middle class!?

My grandparents and great grandparents survived the Great Depression because they didn't use a bank.  They buried their money, and when the shit hit the fan, the banks weren't going to take it.  Some economists claim the hoarding didn't help the situation, but this life is about survival of your being/family, and as a result of fear people saved their money themselves.

It seems history is repeating itself

/rant

I put all my money into checking, then I always keep an extra $200 in savings. If I go over, it automatically takes the money out of savings. That way I don't have to worry about overdraft. :awesome:

M bank can't charge me overdrafts anymore. I refused to sign the overdraft protection and they take purchases out in real time now and just refuse the transaction if I don't have the money. They don't like it and are telling me that I need to sign up for overdraft protection or they will cancel my account. I told them no and am waiting for them to try to close my account. If they do I will refuse to pay them payments on a 8k loan lol.

Not a fan of banks either but for some stuff they make it easier.  Gotta love direct deposit.  I don't like the fact that if I withdraw a large amount of cash it can look suspicious.  I'd rather not have someone able to see my spending habits or when I take large amounts of money out.

I've got a savings account but much like what happened during the Great Depression, I always felt more at ease with my money at home.  I try to keep as much cash in a "savings" account at home, I call it a "blind savings".  I always kept my leftover change in jars and other things, because you don't really know how much you have till you go cash it in.  I started doing this with bill money too.  Have a big jar/jug that I can't see through, and along with my change toss in whatever extra bill money I have that I know I'm not gonna need to spend.  Once the jar is filled, I put it in a duct tape freezer bag and never know how much is actually in it.  Can't wait till I finally open those bags and count the moneys.  Hopefully it's  :hairmetal:

I just recently bought a few ounces of silver.  What about platinum?  Do you think that it's a worthwhile investment?

Gold is expensive right now.(well so is platinum)

Should I buy silver straight from the mint?

Sounds like you have a shittie bank.

My bank gives me an overdraft line of credit, if I go over it just like charging the purchase to a credit card.  Also, no monthly fees.

The main players are gold and silver, and silver will probably at some time outperform gold.

Do your own due dilligence.

If you are in the "few ounces of silver" stage of investing, silver is probably your best bet as gold takes big increments to get the premiums to drop.

Personally i feel Junk Silver (90% pure fractional US $ silver coinage) is the way to go.

A good reason to have gold is to have portable wealth. A short roll of krugerrands (10 coins of 1oz) is about the size of a flashlight battery and has a value of $14,000

these fucknuts still refused, after about 45 minutes of dealing with the
shit I called her and told her what was going on and she came down and
reamed the manager, demanded they close her accounts and give her the
money in cash, it was a sizable chunk, they based all the bullshit on my
appearance

I went through the same shit over a $1000 check I received a few weeks ago
drawn on BoA, and their check cashing policy of charging $7 for cashing
checks drawn on their bank for non customers is just ridiculous, the bank
customers need to raise hell about that and they ever changing fee schedule

start closing accounts and report to the corporate office why you no

simple, banks charge a fee for overdraft protection on ATM purchases as well as if you have an overdraft, I always tell them I dont want overdraft protection but I do want a cutoff if my debit card purchase exceeds
my balance...

I have no credit and I dont want it, I pay cash for everything, I was
turned down for a secured loan that was half the value of my savings
account at a bank I was conducting business with since I was 13, they told
me to go to a mall jewelry store and apply for a store card, pay on it for
several months and they'll be more than happy to help me. I closed my
account right then, told them the reason I have money in their bank is
because I dont make frivolous purchases and decided I'll never bother with
attempting to get credit

I recently reopened a free account at chase, the terms are no minimum
balance and at least 5 purchases on my card per month, if I fail that the
fee is about $6 and they claim to have no fees for people cashing checks
that arent customers, if they change any of the terms on my account then I
close it and go elsewhere

Local bank > BofA.
My place still has free checking and no weird fees. $15 annually for the debit card.

Credit unions are cool too.

Overdraft fees should be renamed "stupid tax".

If you lack the basic cognitive ability to perform simple math, then you should be fined for bringing down the collective intelligence of society at large.

Banks and credit cards make my life significantly easier.  Everything is paid automatically, and on time each and every month.  With loans, they allow me to do a cost-benefit analysis and determine whether owning or using an item now, is worth the interest paid on a loan.

Bingo! I've been using banks for over 40 years and have only made money on the deal not to mention having a place to store excess money.

OP It's a bunch of crap to blame the bank when it's up to you to manage your money.  If you don't like the banks then don't use them.

Really?  So if people that live from pay check to paycheck and can barely support themselves and they go over by a few bucks, these people should be castrated with the "stupid tax" and the banks pocket the money?  Get off your high horse, not everybody is fortunate to have a stable lifestyle, and because they needed a gallon of milk or whatever to survive they should be branded as "stupid" and be charged an additional fee for purchasing something as small as a gallon of milk.

Not only that, but have you ever heard of an atm skimmer??  It's not always the fault of the account holder.

So if banks weren't around, what would you do for the gallon of milk?

You would go without and starve.

Sounds to me like you should be thanking the bank for saving your ass in a time of need.  You get charged for this service like any other.  Don't like it, do what you said in the OP, get rid of your bank.

If you're overdrafting, you have no money, and no need for a bank in the first place.

I also don't understand how accepting the sovereign debt of your country is somehow more risky than something as volatile as precious metals, by the way.

If I was going to invest in something to do if the gov't defaults on its securities, it'd be a crate of ak47s buried in a crate full of grease under my garden, not silver

I've had a few bad experiences with banks, overdrafts and whatnot, but they were my fault. I thought the banks were helpful, a few times they waived the fees for being a longtime customer.

I had a good laugh at RP's comment complaining about monthly fees that are soon going to be associated with basic checking accounts. You do realize that the banks are providing a service don't you? And if they can't rape you with the hidden overdraft fees of yesterday, then they will have to charge for the service up front ie monthly fees.

I don't love banks, but they serve a purpose. If you don't require their services then stow your money elsewhere.

allowing others to access your accounts does that as well, auto bill pay
makes things convienient for that small fee but it also prevents you from
reviewing and disputing bills, for instance my mother had an account with
DirecTV, she'd set up for automatic deductions from her account, one day we
had a DVR go bad and requested another be sent, it was never shipped, bill
was still being deducted and then suddenly there was an extra $800 charge for
the broken DVR because we hadnt returned it in the box the replacement which
hadnt been shipped was supposed to arrive in, that caused 5 overdrafts on her
account. of course DirecTV claims no responsibility and she was unaware that
they were able to charge her account at will for anything other than the bills

Or, taking all your cash out but still instinctively pay with a card. Oops I have done that a few times.

I opted out of the overdraft protection and thankfully so, I tried the old forget about cash, use card thing just last week.

Banks... Dunno bout american bank system.. everything is private down there (I think), cant even imagine that, but whatever.

Our banks are as fucker up as yours...sure they survived the recession better, but still, cant get loans, expensive fees, overdraft is the same fucking thing than yours...

My problem...I got a outstanding balance on my line of credit...cant pay it in full with my legit money, cant deposit the other cash...therefore im paying interest on a loan that will always be the same fuckin amount cause my in = my outs.. (20$ over/under) each month...

Funny story, I was in a bank this morning, tried to get cash, didnt accept cause they looked at my visa bills and said I spent too much.

Fuck em... illegal cash it is forever!
