Field Trip 2-21-11 Western Washington
    #14005982 - 02/22/11 05:42 AM (12 years, 11 months ago)

Weather is forecast to be cold later in the week, so went out to see what could be found. Ran into a piliated woodpecker and bald eagle, along with 17 different types of mushrooms. Sorry, need a better camera. Am learning how to ID, but its slow going!

This is a mixed temperate rain forest. Has about every type of tree which grows in this area, fir, ceder, maple, madrona, etc. Temp is in the mid 40 F, night upper 30s.

1. Very pretty mushroom, growing on a log

2. Also growing on a log, slight red stem

3. small black cup, probably 1/2 inch wide.

4. small mushroom growing in moss

5. found several of these hat like mushrooms over the area

6. small light colored mushroom, growing in the forest litter

7. coolest shot, wish camera was better. These were actually growing inside of this tree, most than the photo shows.

8. small black mushrooms, very little stipe.

9. orange-brown color grouping, about 1 inch wide, growing on the ground next to this log.

10. pretty pure white mushroom, growing in the forest litter, about 1 inch wide cap

11. these yellow mushrooms were around a newly fallen tree, with some in the hole where the tree used to be, and then up the hill by the tree. Probably 20 mushrooms over the area, some caps 3 inches wide

12. Another cool looking mushroom growing on a tree trunk.

13. ok.. lots of shelf fungi, but this one was large. The cell phone is 4.5 inches.

Nice hunt Harry! I can't help much with the IDs. None of them jump out at me right now, and with the given information I would be able to make nothing more than a crude guess anyhow... looked like a fun hike though!  :sunny:

It's sometimes difficult and often impossible to recognize mushrooms without at least gill shots

I think these are likely

1 Psathyrella
2 Lentinellus micheneri
3 Pseudoplectania meleana
4 Mycena
5 Mycena
8 Sarcosoma/Plectania
9 Psathyrella piluliformis
10 Alboleptonia sericella
11 Hypholoma
12 Mycena

Thanks guys... I did collect a few mushrooms and working on spore prints... Sorry about the lack of gill shots...

#11 is purple spores

Was just happy to see that much variety... Though not many of each was found.. Would call it sparse hunting

The purple spore print indicates Hypholoma like The Thinker said for #11.
