Psilocybin is chemically similar to a neurotransmitter called serotonin, your brain uses this like it would serotonin. You could think of psilocybin as a pseudo-neurotransmitter. Something interesting, psilocybin is a type of DMT, which is a very strong hallucinogen effects wise. DMT occurs naturally in the brain.
