I'd go for it.
You don't like the Vox? I love my Vox amp, loaded with presets. There are much better amps out there, but I like the unique sound of the vox. Mine is a Vox Valvetronix VT30 I got it for like $150.

I am in the market for a new Electric guitar, and a new acoustic guitar with built in pick ups.
I write music, some requires straight up electric guitar like when I write 70's style hard-rock and a lot of the music I write is more like a 50's rockabilly meets folk kind of 60's pre-punk which prefers a more vintage acoustic sound.
You can make an acoustic guitar sound awesome with a vox amp, gain mid with distortion, like a velvet underground kind of sound.
anyhow, I'll make sure I tell the salesman at the guitar center why I'm interested in checking that one out, haha.
Hooooly shit, what guitar costs 6k?
It's extremely versatile though, the pickups are duncan JB(bridge)/59(neck), 5 way selectable + mahogany body, ebony fretboard, grover tuners, and its a 1 piece guitar... I honestly can't think of anything else I'd need in a guit stick, anything from death metal to classical guitar sounds good through that guitar and the vox
I just noticed you had a VT-30... I play through a VT-50 so I know you'll be happy with the sound

Hahah.. list price 7,740$... ouch.
Probably good you didn't get it... you probably end up paying 4000$ extra just cause its a 'signature' model - there is no practical reason I can think of why any guitar should be more than 2k maybe 3k.

youtube is a really great resource. there are a bunch of competing guitar instructional sites that post techniques. it's good to be able to watch fingers move around a fret board. you should go out to shows and jam with people to try to pick up new skillz.
these are mine;

the strat is a yamaha rgx 1203s. i got it for almost free from my roommate and put in a new bridge. total ~$50 for a high end super strat thats older than i am and apparently incredilby rare. the coolest thing about it is the humbucking to single coil switch which i've never seen before. other than that it's a neck thru, 2 octave, ebony fretboard, jumbo fret shredding machine.
the acoustic i stole from the bio grad lounge at school. had 3 rotten strings and a cracked neck. so i took it home, epoxied it, loved it, and now its my humble lil acoustic.

Someone explain to me why a guitar is worth so much... I mean when good music was being made there guitars were what... $25 or something at a flee market. Its not going to make you good with a 5k guitar rather a fool for such a conspiracy

I would never pay more than 1,500$ for a good guitar but... A new gibson was about 250$ or so around 1967... which equates to.. I don't know, a shit ton now?
A guitar is an EXTREMELY fine tuned work of art, I feel like I half stole mine only paying 400$ for it.

more than twice as much for an instrument that, from what i understand (not much), doesn't come close to the quality of the original. you're buying a name and an image more so than you are fine craftsmanship. not that there is anything wrong with that, and not that they probably aren't wonderful guitars. personally, i've never even touched one and am a guitar noob anyway.

Yeah I'd stay away from the sig models. An extra 3k just for someones name on your instrument. Funny thing is most guitarists don't play their own sig models, and you could build a better version of the same thing for about half the price. Not to mention most of them are tacky or ugly as shit
Here's mine, nothing special but it sounds alright.

I need a new amp but I can't decide on the best small (under 5 watt) tube amp. Anyone here know enough about these to point me in the right direction?

I don't even know what the equivalent would be anymore, gibson has LP's anywhere from 900$ up to 8000+$ most are around the same 1800$ or so price still. I'm not sure of the difference in quality either but you're right about paying more for the name - which is why I will probably never buy a Gibson... Most overpriced guitars on the market in my opinion.
Schecters, Jacksons, and Music Mans for me.

Materials, attention to detail. Everything about a 3000 dollar guitar is better than a 300 dollar guitar. Lets not even discuss a particle board 25 dollar flea market guitar, obviously that is going to sound like shit.
Quality guitars are made from quality woods with very close attention to detail in the fit and finish. They play better, sound better, feel better, look better, etc.
Think about it. Guitars are precision instruments. The frets, bridge, nut, the neck joint angle, the flatness of the fretboard, every little detail is very important and what you pay for is quality control. A guitar coming out of a factory in china is not going to be perfect like a hand crafted instruments. The electronics will be cheap, the volume and tone pots will wear out much sooner, the pickups will be made in china and probably sound like garbage, often they aren't even made of solid wood but plywood or particle board (the gibson es-335 is an exception - the top and back are actually made of plywood even in the $3000+ models, but the center is solid wood)
It takes a lot of work to hand craft an electric guitar. A lot less work to crank a hundred out of a factory. But you can bet the hand built one will be the better guitar.
