So I've finally gotten around to getting my first guitar and I'm loving it already. Anyone know of some good websites for acoustic lessons/songs for the beginner?

What kinda guitar do you have?
I have an LTD H351-NT.

well, i can only play two songs and know a grand total of 5 chords.
And I learned them by looking up the tabs to song I like, then googling how to play the chords involved.
two monthes later I can Play Aeroplane over the Sea and You Ain't Going Nowhere. Turrdurr

always top notch tabs, unlike like UG, which has a lot of shitty ones amongst the decent few.

Thats great man. Keep practicing. I promise you that down the road when you can really belt out some chords or riffs; it will feel great. Its a great method of output.

Get on it Belac! Some of the most important things you need to learn are right there.
Sweet guitar for 90 bucks!
I have an epiphone electric, that looks a lot like this:
They are pretty decent value priced guitars great for beginners. I've been playing guitar for years. Personally I'm going to say stay away from tabs if you can, they aren't a good way to learn how to play guitar I don't think. Maybe just to start, when you really need to, because it is impossible to find the right note or chord. Learn your chords and work on your ears, use that chord chart, there is a lot to learn. Think in terms of the root key and the harmonics of that note which form each chord. It would be good to learn some basic music theory but I know that is the last thing on your mind when you get your first guitar. What I did then, was play a cd of whatever song I want to learn how to play, find the chords, riffs, etc, often pausing the cd every couple seconds, if that is what it took, to figure out how to play a riff. Keep in mind there are multiple 'places' you can play any given riff on a guitar... I feel like doing this really developed my ears and I can hear musically really well, which is great if you want to be able to play to anything. Tabs are great if you want to limit yourself to somebody else's level. 75% of the tabs I have looked up on the internet were totally wrong, and I would then have to re-learn the correct way to play it, on my own! So I stopped trying to use tabs, but I admit that in the beginning it is hard not to sometimes.
Here's my free lesson for you: First thing you should know is that the strings, from highest to lowest in pitch, are E B G D A E This last E being the big fat string on top. At the 12th fret, the double dot marked fret probably right about where the neck meets the body, at that fret on each string is the same note, except one octave higher. Each fret represents a half-step increase from the first note (the open string). There are twelve notes in the chromatic scale. It all makes perfect sense! The fretboard repeats itself beyond the 12th fret, so everything is the same up there as at the first fret.

Good luck!

You know, I've always wanted to learn guitar. How hard is it to teach yourself how to play using the resources of the internet? Or do you pretty much just need to take lessons and shit?

I had an easier time learning on my own than I did trying to figure out what the fuck all those teachers were trying to tell me haha
As for those epic chord charts and scale diagrams... waste of time in my opinion... take that time instead to learn the notes on the fretboard and how to construct scales/chords on your own - its far more rewarding than memorizing a bunch of chords which you have no knowledge behind besides how to play it. It will give you the knowledge to make music on any instrument. Make you a musician instead of just a guitar player

I would recommend you go to Ultimateguitar.com and just get tabs of your favourite songs. Learn to play those with a chord chard or something, and get good with chords and changing between them

my first lesson for you is to go here http://web.mac.com/len15/LOVE528/528_Tuner.html and tune your guitar to 528 hz. play like normal and learn to "feel" your music, not just listen to it. music is simply a vibration.

Learn what it means to be in key. Also, learn your major scales and minor pentatonic scales... that will get you started.
Good luck!

Why would you tune to 528hz when everyone else plays relative to 440hz?

Learn to play Open position chords C, A, G, E, D.
Learn to play barre chords and chords F and B
Learn to play minor chors, Cm, Am, Gm, Em, Dm
that will be a good start. learn to change between chords very fast, like G and D, C and Am, C and F.
